Tape stripes about 3" wide running the length of the car have been on for 4 years. They are slightly crooked and I would like to replace them. Can it be done?

yes..Lots of ways to remove them, heat gun, decal stripping wheel, just grab an edge & carefully peel....Once removed if the paint is oxidized you'll need to buff the paint so the old decal location doesn't show...

after 4 years, the paint underneath will be a different color unless it's been in a cave the whole time.

if theyve been on that long, chances are the stripes will leave indentations in the paint.

Get ready for a repaint

Best bet is a heat gun. You will most likely have glue left over to remove after which is worse then pulling the stickers. You can use something like Dupont final; clean or some Prep-Sol to remove the glue. Then you will have to buff the paint out.

Chances are you will still see a shadow of wear the stripe was how bad depends on the color od the car. Worth a shot though. I just pulled all the stickers off of a Fire Chiefs car and when it was done and buffed out you couldnt tell they were there but the car was white.

How ever if you are replacing it doesnt really matter.

Yes, it has pretty much been in a cave for 4 years.

Anyone else?

You will see the lines at an angle even after buffing, not really a way around it except repaint

If you read what the original poster asked he intends to replace the stripes, once the new stripes are in place you won't see any variation in the paint that is covered with a new stripe...

and if you think further...a heat lamp on the area you want to peel ahead of time, with a thermometer at the surface to ensure the surfaces get warm enough to peel, but not damage the paint....then peel slowly. Remove residue with glue remover, lightly wet sand affected areas with ultrafine sandpaper, buff gently and apply new decal.

Thanks everyone! One of the stripes has a slight bow to it and one is angled down a little. I am hoping there will be no significant indentation left from the old stripe. Nothing ruins an otherwise nice restoration like some imperfect stripes.
