Is the serial number of a 1970 440 underneath the oil pan on the rail?

I have looked all over the engine and can't find any stampings other than the top engine pad and the VIN partial on the pass side.

I have always read the description that it is on the oil pan rail under the starter opening, but I have never seen a picture of where it is.

Your confusing the years, Ma Mopar put the engine I.D. #s on the 1969,70 and 71 on the machine pad on the passenger side of the block underneath the motor mount right above the oil pan mating surface, 1969 had the VIN on it, 1970 and 1971 had the sequence numbers of the car stamped on them, not the first five digits of the VIN like 1969 had I think that is correct anyways The upper pad should have F440 and some other numbers and information stamped onto it if it is s real 1970 OEM production motor

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Yes, but, apart from the partial VIN and the upper pad markings, there is also supposed to be a serial number on the engine block.

It should read something like, for example:
PM44030280025

Where PM is the Mound Rd. plant
440 is displacement
3028 is date code for 11/11/1969
0025 is 25th engine made that day.

This is supposed to be on the Left side, rear of block, near oil pan flange; per the 70-71 parts book.
This isn't a very clear description; it doesn't say whether it's on the side, bottom, or rear face of block.

A picture would help, but, as I said, I've never seen one.

The only place left to look is under the oil pan flange on the bottom of the block.

I've only seen that on pre 69 blocks and it's on the ear either under the starter or on the other side.

That seems to be a "hit or miss" deal...not every engine got it.

Guess mine was one of the misses.
Not that big of a deal, just would have given the engine build date.
