I know the original 70s era accessories from the LA motors won't bolt onto a Magnum motor, and the easiest thing to do would be to use the serp. set up and accessories in the older vehicle, but just wondering who has tried to put the older stuff on the newer motors for that 'original' look? what needs to be done and how did you do it?

pretty sure people have swapped the la fronts onto the mag blocks.
you just need the la timing cover too.

My CrewCab (the 1st Mag swap I did 6 years ago) used a RV2 compressor & all my stuff from the original 360 except for the Denso alt bracket from a 91 van
That's using a Crosswinds intake
That's the only factory V belt A/C stuff that will fit any intakes offered & the Crosswinds is the only direct bolt fit for this stuff

The bypass fitting & T stat are in 78-down positions on the Crosswinds

The others all have Magnum positioning
It's easier to keep A/C on a 79-newer using the serpentine drive
There's no intake that will fit the C171 without major mods

look at DusterDaves jeep thred.

he got the older LA alt brackets but they would not fit the mag heads

he made his own brackets to fit mixing mag-LA stuff.

also look at dakota Dons post on serp bet on LA engine.

you need a 91 v-6 dakota only t-cover and serp pullys/brackets to get a serp system to bolt on to a LA engine like stock with stock parts.

the t-covers do fit and swap but they have to have the brackets figured out to run it.

looking over my mag heads and the LA heads I can confirm it will not use stock brackets from a mag engine on a LA engine with LA heads,

a LA pre-mag/magnum hybrid would do the trick.

My RV2 compressor bracket would have mounted the original alt with no problems
I used this instead & the brace bolted to the head with no mods

Now the cast iron piece on the bottom had 3/8" removed from one of it's mounting bosses

I've done 7 of the swaps so far 6 with V belt stuff & this is the most modifying I've done yet to make anything fit

There's more work & more money to do serpentine
