I think this is the 6th A/C-heater blower motor resistor to go into the "wide-open" mode in the last 4-5 years? Maybe I'm getting a voltage spike or who knows what's making them go bad????

I'm getting a little tired of replacing them.............but on the good side I bought the "life-time" guarantee Duralast one from Autozone so now it only costs me the time and fuel to the AZ store and with a 1/4 nut driver and less than 10-minutes I can R&R it like a pro Just wish I could figure out why it goes bad so often?

It's my wife's 2001 Town & Country Limited with all the bells and whistles 3.8 liter V6, dual air, etc.. this is the resistor: (any help would be greatly appreciated THANKS! in advance

two things to check:
the cabin air filter may be clogged, making you run the fan harder with less airflow over it for cooling.
also, check the current draw on the fan. may be dragging, making the resistor hotter.
just some thoughts, ive been wrong before..

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

Usually if it happens its the motor drawing too much.Early Caddys had the same problem.You had to check the amp draw to make sure they didnt eat a new resistor.Back then they were about 200 bucks shop cost.So you made sure the blower was good.Rocky

You can't check the amp draw directly unless you have the right instrument. Hint: a wrong instrument will fail a smoke test; i.e., get fried. You can get around this with an inexpensive regular voltmeter by checking the voltage draw and resistance while the motor is running, and dividing volts by ohms.

Amps = Volts/Ohms

Be sure to get the decimal points in the right places. Compare amp draw of subject motor to specs or a known good similar motor.

It's a dry heat
most of the time when the resistor goes it's because of the motor

ck the connector - chances are it's slightly melted / been hot

Bill, so far the connectors don't have any indications of getting hot (no melted areas) the cabin filter was dirty but not extremely dirty. I replaced the cabin filter last night with the new resistor and if it goes again then I'll replace the blower motor but if I get a chance here in the next few days/weeks I'll test it before that.

Thanks,

Just a side note and may or may not be a coincidence but the right rear brake light bulb was burned out too and noticed just after the latest resistor went

Thanks again
