There is no reason to hate to say it..... Golf courses, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, hockey rinks, football fields, running tracks, tennis courts......you name, I can get to any number of them in minutes, yet I have to drive hours to get to a dragstrip, then sit in LONG HOURS of traffic to get home, at ridiculous gas and toll prices, as there isn't a SINGLE track in my entire state, or Mass. So guess what??? I have 3 perfect lanes of concrete, with shoulders on each side, straight and flat, no on/off ramps and shutdown forever, 3 miles from me. If I get pinched, or crash....it's on me. F the state and anyone with a problem. They don't like it??? THEN ALLOW A TRACK TO BE BUILT IN A FREAKIN' STATE THAT HAS ACRE AFTER ACRE AFTER ACRE OF !!!!!!WOODS!!!!!

Had a great time last night. There is still nothing that compares to making a pass on the street. Sorry to the Haters! No racetracks in So Cal anymore. There is many streets safer than Irwindale! Just my 2 cents And yes I am a Street Racer!

The main problem is when a spectator gets hurt or killed, then it gets classified as "drag racing" and we as racers get the black eye again. Had an incident in Jacksonville MANY years ago..people racing at the closed airport, car had a wheel come off or suspension failure and a kid got killed.Because of that,to this date we have NO race track in the North Florida area. The city will not even consider having one because of what happened long ago.The city council even wrote regulations that now there will be mufflers and early curfews if a race ever is run here.
Nautilus Racing- We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

What a shame that all of these closed AFB's cannot be used for regular, organized race activities. Be it drag racing, auto-x, skid pads, drifters, etc...

When there are no proper racing facilities within a given distance, there's gonna be street racing. Seems to me that if you had a good surface, fairly remote location, no possibility of traffic, animals, hikers, etc and the spectators were restricted from the top end area, a 1/8th mile deal would be pretty safe. Hopefully people would be smart enough to wear helmets & belts where appropriate, and not leave trash behind or get into fights or anything else that would create problems.

Spent my share of time in the pokey and giving the city my money. Funny thing is we raced about a mile from Dom's signature picture was taken and usually on Test & Tune nights It was fun til the Imports started showing up in the mid eighties. After that i just went to the track when i could and still doin that today!

I think there might have been a misunderstanding? It's a street near an AFB. Run ways are controlled by the FAA and will not consider any kind of use except for airplanes. That's why we are on the street ! Give us back Fontana!!!!

We have a closed air base in northern Mich that a few people TRIED to get a drag strip set up on and it was turned down a few times... area people said it would be too loud(even if they had muffs) but yet they rebuild air craft engines there at Kalleta Air and run the engines for break in all day long... so the kids street race and crash on a regular basis.. plus the economy is down and for some reason they wont open it to help the economy ....IDIOTS

No kiddin', Mr.P... About 10 years ago, when I last lived in The People's Republic of California, there were some street-racing deaths around Tracy. A friend & I located an old unused airstrip, got people on the hook for a 'tree, storage, food truck, fencing, insurance, etc, to run a low-fee deal that would give folks a place to run at no cost to the city/county. Presented our plan to the powers that be and got shot down. Too many people in charge have that academic "cars are evil" philosophy nowadays.

When they closed Chanute the locals tried to get a track on the property since they resurfaced the airstrip right before the closing. Unfortunately, the people who bought the on site golf course won.out.

If it's the one I remember, It was a good well organized plan. too bad it never materialized. Heck , there were talks of a huge motorplex with much financial backing that was being planned between Hollister and I-5 that was shot down as well.

We have towed 3+ hours to get to ATCO and 5+ hours in traffic to get home, paying laughable tolls, over miserable roads and to chase a number, I have no problem with it, but if something comes up on the street......

Around here PIR used to do Friday and Saturday night races till 1 am. The local law said if you want to race at night then go to the track. So racers went to the track. Then people bought houses next to the track and complained about the noise. Now the track closes at 10 (may be 10:30); guess where the racers went back to?

with ya Jim. Even Lebanon Valley (outside Albany, N.Y.) is a bit of a ride for you. Yeah things are getting "heated" in the tri -state area and all over the country as dragstrips are drying up. Just remember what happens in the streets STAYS THERE (in the streets)!

Yeah not sure why Conn & Mass have their heads up their butt!? I was involved in 1(Gardner) out of the 4 attempts(Orange,Gardner,Winchendon,& Uxbridge) I know of to build a track in Mass. It seems noise is the biggest issue to most.

Keep it on the track. I witnessed a wrecker pulling a duster back upright that had been upside down on it top burning in a ditch.. the driver and his 3 passengers were burned up like toast. white nuckle bones could be seen sticking out of the charred flesh of one of the hands. A eye witness ( that I knew ) said they was racing and lost controll. the eye witness tried to help but could do nothing. He said he could hear the passengers screaming as the fire killed them but, the way the car landed upside down in the ditch they could not get out and he could not help they...

Ct. & Mass (along with most of America) are run by jag-offs.
Many areas are loud.....like airports. I'd rather have a track in Ct. that required mufflers, than sit in traffic for HOURS trying to get home from ATCO.

Well, I finally made it out Dom, I saw your car hitting the Wiener Snitzle drive-thru and then didnt see it out at the street.
Man, I was jonesin for a strawberry lemonade then everyone went to the base for what was SUPPOSED to be a race from some mouthy punk from down the hill that never happened. He had a 10.60 n/a smallblock Nova(imagine that)that he claimed was the shiznitt but after he backed it off the trailer sounding crappy and loading up, he wussed out claiming that the other car he was going to race took to long or something like that. Sorry I missed you........
Yeah I was there for all of that. I was the young guy with a hat and Mopar shirt. That didnt happen to be you standing by the 55 with a rat motor and 4spd after he made a pass, was it?

I guess my take on street racing is long as you do it far from any people and aren't endangering anyone but yourselves, and at your own risk, have at it.
Thats how we've always done it. I may be a young gun compared to these old farts but ive been around it my whole life and was always told "theres a time and place for everything"
The only people that could possibly get hurt are the people that are there by choice and know the risks. With that being said, theres never anyone standing in front of the cars.
