I bought an alternator baracket set for my Max wedge project off of partslimited. And it was brand new and perfect to me, with both brackets the bolt and 3 spacers. Thick metal like stock and fit in every way it was meant to. Even had top on it, to show how it mounted. But it was advertised as NS1. I admit I don't know all the terms. I think NOS means new old stock but not having to be original. I see motor mounts saying this for 49.95 and has a carquest part number on it that I buy for 6 bucks. Or like the cuda nos road lamps for 30 bucks when you can get them for 7.41. But I don't know how to apply the NS1. would someone be so kind as to further my knowledge? Thanks for your help

i think it means they dont sell it anymore at the dealer. or no longer in stock.

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

NS1 means a part's production has been discontinued & when the on-hand supply runs out, you're "up a creek..." So, for intents & purposes, NS1 means it's no longer available (although it MAY be available until supplies run out) from the new car dealer.

Moparts is a family oriented board and profanity, speeled out, implied or diguised is NOT permited!out of luck! ...And that has an AFFECT on my attitude twards trying to restore these cars with the little help you get from the factory !

As I recall NS1 is 'Not Serviced'. It has been a while since I worked in parts but NS1 was the first step after the part was not avaialable nationally. I never saw many examples but there are NS2, NS3, etc. parts also. Never have gotten a good explanation of what that all meant. I wonder where John Cambridge is?? He'd probably know.

The guy that owns partslimited.com has 3 left of the non ac 67 and up and 1 left of the 66 and down. He used to run a dealership with his dad from 71 to 84 or something like that. He has a bunch of stuff forsale. The brackets were 64 bucks shipped to your door.

John:
Have you ever seen the NS2, NS3 designations? Back in '75 I was sure that one of our price books (yeah books, no computer!) had NS designations other than '1'.

Had to look this one up. This is what I found in my old notes.

Not Serviced Codes

NS0 = Glass distributor supplied part
NS1 = Canceled Part Number
NS2 = Do Not Service (Not sure what that means)
NS3 = Canceled - Phased out - No Demand
NS4 = Serviced as assembly only
NS5 = Serviced NOT as assembly
NS6 = Serviced in a package
NS7 = Canceled - Not used in production
NS8 = Make-Trim Part ( I assume that means you have to make an alternative part fit?)
NS9 = Paintable Trim Part

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
