Junky OP master J Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,186 Wherever I am.	I put on a new gasket with Permatex High Tack gasket sealer, on all four sides. Followed directions to the letter. Drove the car a short way today. Pan is leaking. I checked the blots which were loose by about a 1/4 turn to re-tighten them. Should I use the Red or Blue Permatex threadlocker on the bolts? gpuller member G Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 20 Easton, Minnesota	Sorry I didnt get in on part 1 of the pan leak saga. I had pan sealing troubles and went this route. No more leaks. Go to the dealer and get a reusable gasket for a Ram pickup they used the same gasket as a 727. P/N 2464324AC retail of around $15.60 Gaskets are a hard plastic with silicone bead on both sides to seal. No sealer is needed on the gasket. The hard plastic prevents over tightening the pan bolts and possibly causing the gasket to squish.

Junky OP master J Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,186 Wherever I am.	That will be the next gasket I'll use if this one leaks again after I find a way to keep the bolts tight. I got a fel-pro gasket, a new one again, and put the high tack gasket sealer on all four surfaces. Let it dry to a tacky touch. Installed pan. Didn't put any fluid in for over 24 hours. Ran the car a few miles, got home, no leakes, and checked the bolts. They were ever so slightly loose. Tightened them again. Drove a few miles today, got home and pan was leaking. Bolts were loose again. Tightened them again! Drove a few miles again, got home no leaks. Checked bolts, they were loose again!! About maybe an 1/8 of a turn to tighten them except two that took about a 1/4 turn to tighten them. Don't know why the bolts keep coming loose so I want to try the Blue Threadlocker. I only ask because I thought my cast pan wasn't sealing only to find out it was my dipstick tube o ring. I needed to install a new o ring with some rtv smeared on it to stop the leak. Shift seals are also another potential leak source that makes it look like its a pan leak.

I soon found out I had a bad casting and it was leaking THROUGH the pan. 1 little pinhole. I returned that pan, got another, used the gasket mentioned and used lock-washers on the bolts. I looked for a defect in the pan too. Nope, it's coming out of between the pan and the trans through the gasket area. Above the pan it's dry. I've come to the conclusion that it's because the pan bolts keep coming loose. Since no one answered, I guess it's the Blue Threadlocker I'll try. And I would not bet my life on it ... but I think the OEM used those on the windage tray motors only .... because of the two gaskets and the thickness of the tray.... I say either get those special bolts OR use some quality RTV on the bolts going into the case. ANY of that locklite ....I would worry about it fugging-up the alum threads on the case ...if you ever had to pull the pan off again.

I know for a fact that when changing trans fluid using the stock steel pan this doesn't happen. But with this aluminum pan the bolts need re-torquing every time I get home from taking the car out and about. There's nothing leaking from the transmission, only from the gasket area when the bolts loosen up. I'm not making this stuff up. I'm frustrated and sick of messing with it.
