Couple things...Its an 07, so its an emissions diesel, and really the first year for them.

Two, its got the steeper 3.73 gears...

Three, its an auto...

Other than that, it looks nice.

Towed all the way out to NYIRP with my new '01 Friday for TNT and Saturday for the Gasser's race, which I won...And the new to me truck towed better than my last one with power to spare fully loaded. Still fighting a trailer brake gremlin, but I have it narrowed down. Pulls the big hill leaving back to Batavia fully loaded at 60mph...Also got 15.5mpg fully loaded as well. Looked at a lot of newer diesel Dodges, just couldn't justify the difference in price and worse mileage.

As far as the emissions diesel thing is concerned...what do I need to know about that?
It is a 5.9...

Even though it's an '07, it still has the 5.9 so there aren't any emissions on it to worry about. That didn't start until they changed over to the 6.7 engines.

3.73's and 4.10's are the only options for a diesel starting in '03. You can't get 3.55's anymore like you could with the 2nd generation trucks.

Three, its an auto...
The 48RE's really aren't that bad. I prefer them over the G56 transmission any day. If you leave the power level stock you probably won't have many issues. If you are going to turn it up then you will need to look at upgrading it or it won't last long.

My 09 dodge came from the factory with 3.42 gears.but it was a 6.7. Also if Eric desides to turn the power up a little bit ,at the least I would recommend a after market torque converter and valve body.to bad they don't have a kit out to put a six speed in his o7 like I had in my 09. Nothing wrong with the 48RE I just never liked the big gear change from 3 to 4 gear.Eric that's one great looking truck and is the same color as my 09 was.that truck should last you a very long time.best of luck with it.mopar65

Actually, even though its still a 5.9, because its an emissions diesel, you cannot remove the emission devices. It will have an EGR and CAT & muffler...Meaning to pass inspection, the computer must be read, and all devices intact. And with winters around here, they do tend to only last a few years.

On a non-emissions diesel, it is exempt and only costs $10 here in NY for inspection. I don't even have to run an exhaust if I don't want to. And you gain a little towards mpg without it or just going to a bigger pipe without the cat & muffler....Sounds good too. My 2001 is a beast.

The '07 5.9 does NOT have an EGR valve. That did not come into play until they changed to the 6.7 engines. These engines are exactly the same from 2005-2007. It will have a Catalytic converter and a muffler but no sensors in the exhaust like a 6.7 does. These are the only emissions items that the 05-07 5.9 trucks had.

I didn't know they brought that option back with the later 6.7 trucks. I know with the 03-07 trucks it wasn't an option. As far as the 6-speed swap, for the money it'd cost to do the swap he could build the 48RE and have a MUCH stronger transmission that would last through anything he wanted to do with it.
