one wire, internally regulated. what are you running for one? electric fuel pump, dual fans, a/c and lights. stock stereo, basically the stock dakota setup minus the computer. thinking about the mopar performance chrome box for ignition. no other electric.

75 amp dual pulley too small?
run the one wire to the positive side of the starter relay?
what should i source the voltage supply from, for the volts gauge?

thanks, and stuff.

The 75A squareback Powermaster would work fine if your fuel pump is carb type and not enormous. Expect a possible MOPAR type voltage drop at idle (as original) with everything on. The voltage drop shouldn't hurt anything. Big continuous loads like a 20+ amp fuel pump or fan are really too much for the squareback but that's not your situation.

With one wire, the charge wire needs to be big for minimum voltage drop since there is no sense wire and remote VR to compensate. 8 guage minimum or 6 guage preferred to the fender relay should work fine. If your harness is original, consider also installing the stock alternator wire on the alternator. Assuming the ammeter is bypassed this will provide a feed (in addition to the Batt feed) to the pass compartment to reduce load on the bulkhead connector.

For the voltmeter you need a key switched source to prevent power drain when off. On mine, I simply used the instrument panel power supply for the volt meter source. It has been reliable and repeatable. Works fine. The keyed accessory terminal on the fuse block would be OK also.

thanks for the reply. the 75A powermaster is one of the ones i was looking at. i do have electric cooling fans, but they really only run if i'm stuck in traffic, and even then, they are off more than they are on. once i get rolling, the fans never come on. trying to simplify the wiring underhood, however i can manage.

With the fans on voltage will likley drop quite a bit at idle with the 75A square back. Another choice would be the Powermaster 140 amp unit. It has GM guts and MOPAR mount points. Its a tight fit but supposed to be OK on SB's.

It wouldn't fit my BB with Ed heads though and I returned it to Summit.

I'd carry an orange ECU or a stock one. The chrome one made my 340 Challenger run rough around town, ok on freeway. I wouldn't be surprised if those ECUs are all about the same internally, the chrome one didn't make my car any faster, neither the orange one. Really I couldn't tell any difference between any of them. my 2 cents
