So, I've got a 518 in my 72 d100 with a strange problem. Put in drive it skips first gear completely and starts off in second, even if you floor it. Drop the shifter in L1 and it feels like it is grabbing two gears, 1st and reverse at the same time, almost locked up. Goes to full stall and barely creeps forward. Worked normally before. Overrunning clutch?

Possibly the kickdown servo snap ring has failed and the servo guts have popped out and it's applying the kickdown band.

When it takes of in 2nd in Drive does it eventually shift to 3rd?

Shifts completely normally into 3rd from second. Just starts off in second no matter throttle position in drive. Reverse works completely normally too. D1 is almost like transbrake, but slight forward motion at full stall.
Thanks, John, the builder said it was a siezed front clutch, but that doesn't make sense to me.
