I added one can of R-12 to my new-to-me '85 ram's A/C yesterday.

The low side is 25.

A/C center vent temp is 42 degrees.

Outside temperature 75 degrees, humidity 50 percent.

Waddyathunk?

94% of the time; just a little bit of "foam" when the compressor cycles on. Then a tiny bit every now and then.

If it's very low, the compressor will cycle on and off quickly. When you have a decent charge, the compressor should kick in and stay engaged for a while.

I think I will!

IMO there is no such thing a "TOO Cold air conditioner" here in Hot & Humid New Orleans, LA, USA.

But, having said this, I'm not going to waste most of another can of R-12 to get another 2 or 3 degrees colder vent temperature.

Also, I am concerned about putting anymore pressure on/in those factory hoses, condensor and evaporator than I have to.

They can get too cold and freeze up, which is probably worse than having it a little warmer. A properly operating cycle switch should counteract that though.

I drove the truck yesterday and today.

It's in the low 80's today here in New Orleans, very humid also.

The truck's A/C is more than adequate.

'course the True Test will be late August/early September, when the Heat AND Humidity are in the mid/high 90's.
