A friend of mine wants to buy 2 cans from me; I have no idea what would be a fair price to quote him.

CL, auctions, etc. He doesn't find it that cheap all the time, but when he does, he buys it. He sells for $20-$30 a can. He has over 100 cans in his garage, waiting for the weather to warm up to start selling.

Prices are WAY down from what they were the first few years after production ended. Now enough cars that used R-12 have been crushed that demand is down. Don't know enough to say if the bottom has been reached yet...

The average Craigslist price around here is $25 for a 12-ounce can and $30 for a 14-ounce can. Partially depleated 30-pounders are the best deal, one example is $300 for 28 pounds.

Since freeze 12 came out and works well the R12 stuff has just about died. Freeze 12 is a direct drop in for the r12 and is cheap.

I have used freeze 12 in a few trucks, one was added to R12 and the other was a complete system fill.

Both worked great, and much colder air than a retrofit r134 system.

Around here the r12 is selling for $20-$30 a can.

Be wary of stings though. They were doing busts for uncertified buyers from craigslist r12 sales around here a while back.

You are supposed to be certified, and have a permit to buy r12. I got mine years ago, its a simple on line course.
