On the open road
Hi. I'm replacing the sail panels in my GTX. The new ones from REM are flat and have two faced tape stuck to the top and bottom of the backing on all sides. The perforated material is about 1/2 bigger than the backing material.

1) Is there a good way to form a curve in the backing material? Will the trim force it into shape?

2) Should I wrap the perforated over the top and bottom of the backing?

Thanks

I hate to tell you this, but 71 sail panels never came with head liner material on them. There is a metal hook that popes in to the sheet metal. Those sail panels are completely wrong, and nobody make correct ones.

they originally were covered in a paper like substance almost like the package trays. what I ended up doing is taking my original, stained up ratty ones and sanding them down and put wall paper over them and dyed it my interior color. I bought some plain white wall paper with a real slight texture from my local menards.. turned out pretty close to the originals and is a heckuva lot more close than the headliner material.

Don't know.

Mine did.

That's what I did.
To add to what subsequent posters said, no match. But I liked the old sail panels less than the new ones, so stuck with the new ones. Rear window trim and side glass trim did a fairly decent job (at least on my '72 RR) of holding replacements in place, and I liked the idea of a material match to the headliner (I used leftover headliner material to cover them) rather than having one more different texture/pattern on the interior (i.e., seats, door panels, dash pad, carpet, dash, package tray, etc.)

Material covered SP's may not be 'correct', but they sure do add a nice touch...

If yer not playing the OEM game...

Also one more thing. The trunk mats that are on the market now are ALL wrong. they look like crap compared to the original.
