I have a question about wheel and tire combo for my car. I just got an 8 3/4 out of a '69 300 and got a line on some 15x10 rear wheel and tires. Problem is I do not currently have rear fenders so I am unsure if they will fit with out rubbing the fenders. Can anyone tell me if they will fit or what is the widest I can go?
Thanks in advance Adam

Hard to determine without knowing the offset of the wheels.

the 300 rear end is wider than a B body rear end.
a B body rear fits pretty good in those cars, I think between the width of the 300 rear end and a 10" wheel even with 4 1/2" rear spacing that you will rub the fenders
personally I think a 10" wheel is to wide for your car unless you tub the car or widen the fenders. Ron...

That is what I thought, but wanted to ask to get some opinions. Thank you for your advice.

I built a 37 sedan for a guy years ago and I used a B body rear end with 8" wheels and it just fit and I think the wheels had 4 1/2" back space.... Ron

Those rear fenders are not very wide, I would not expect a 10" wide wheel to fit at all. They would either hit the body or the fenders. I had 15 x 7" on my 39 coupe and they fit nicely with the wheel centered in the fender. Gene

If you wanted to run the wider tires in back you could always section your rear fenders, add a little steel and widen them a bit. Either that or tub the back and get rid of your trunk area all together. That way you could fit some fatty's under there.

I am using a 68 Coronet rear on my 36 Plymouth. The wheels are from a new Dodge Magnum, 17x7, tires are 275/60/17. There is very little clearance, I will change to 255's or 245's when I change gears to 3:55.

Any pics of how those fill the fenders?

It looks like that might be the perfect size tire to completely fill the fenders.

If the rear suspension was 3 inches lower, would the tires still clear? or will they rub.

I believe they would rub slightly. My plan is to go with a 29 inch diameter tire and lower 2 inches with a set of posies.

What do you do about the pinion offset when using a B-Body rear end ? I have a '38 Plymouth 4dr sedan that I would like to install a 440 and use a Dana 60 or 8-3/4 . Would the engine have to be installed offset like a B-Body to match the pinion offset , or would the rear end need to be narrowed to center the pinion with no offset ?

Your 440 will likely need to be offset to clear the steering, so the axle shouldn't be much of an issue. Your biggest concern will be driveshaft clearance through the center X member. Also, the u-joints in the driveshaft will allow the trans centerline to be offset (as much as 30 degrees) to the rear axle centerline, as long as they are parrellel with each other. Gene
