What is on there now? It probably calls for a (Wix) 1068. If you have the room, you can run a 1515.

It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

Should be fine. Only issue would be exhaust but its not that tight of a spot.
He might not use wix

This is one area where parts houses have changed over the years. I can remember when I was kid parts people would ask my dad do you what long or shot before going back to get it the oil filter.

I guess with these newer ones there isn't much room like there used to be. Like my 02 Dakota v6 is tight.

I understand wanting a longer/bigger filter.....I do put the long wix 51515 on my 05 Chrysler Town & Country mini van. My Dakota calls for the real short one. I'm able to put the 51068 part # on it instead of the.51085 part # it's tight though.

I have used a 2quart filter from a perkins diesel engine or the 1515 from wix.

I have run the long and short mini filters on them with headers, they were motocraft filters for a ferd 3.0 engine.

as long as you match up the nipple thred size and rubber o-ring seal size it should work.

I like the 2quart from the perkins diesel engines myself.I will be getting one for the 440 truck next oil change.

have napa cross referance it for what ever brand filter you want to buy.

Yes, I also can recall hearing the same question 30, 40 years ago when tagging alond with my Dad at the local parts store.

My '85 ram 318 has the stock exhaust system; it looks like a longer filter will clear the pipe.

I've always read/heard that the more filter square footage area the better. Is this still true in 2013?

Yeah, if you enjoy throwing away good unused filter material, sure.
