How bad is the fuel mileage ... I'd use the term ECONOMY but I don't think that applies ????

Not bad at all.

It's all in how you drive them, John. You've probably heard that a million times but it really applies to the 5.7.

People jump into these things, fall in love with all that power and drive 'em to the pin everywhere. Those are the ones who report 10mpg with a Hemi.

On the other hand, I have an '07 MDS in a 1500 4x4 reg cab short-box and have seen as high as 20mpg on the highway at 60mph. In town, if you go easy on the pedal and let the MDS do the work, I've seen some pretty unbelievable mileage with mine. The MDS was updated to be more active on the 09's and up. With a Jeep being a bit smaller you should see around the 23mpg range.

Had a 2010 Laredo with Pentastar power for a loaner and managed to get a high of 26mpg out of it. Full time all wheel drive on it though (for what, I have absolutely no idea ) which probably kept the number down,
