well the 200$ JY 904 made it 4 yrs as a daily driver,lost 2nd 1x,got it back with band adjustment. went 2 more yrs. got to slipping in low/revs, band adjustment took care of that and I did the front band again with the service. works nice for the last 6 months. then one morning it shifts funny.. no 2nd 1st,3rd, lock up and ride sally ride. drove it 2-3 days no problem. go to work...

then I had a fun ride home. the front of the bed floor and bulkhead is rusted away and has a nice gap. i have a tiedown pull strap hooked on eyeloops in both bed sides just in front of the tool box.

well the long end of the strap finaly slips down thru it and wraps around the drive shaft. jerked the truck in a downward motion and bang! i thought the trans locked up and fell out or a driveshaft...something bad.

nope i look under there and see it wraped around the shaft. i look in the bed and the tiedown is still across in front of the tool box. but the end was like this.

ok, no biggie,I unwrap it from the shaft drive on home 1st & 3rd with lock up working.I am thinking nothing damaged. kool! but do noticed the shifter is out of adjustment..thats kinda odd?

today i swap the 904 out and get to the trans mount bolts. thats funny they are always hard to get the wrench on them,why is it so ez now...then i see it. now i know why shifter is off. the tail shaft is sticking up on a broken mount.

get it out and it looks like this,the rest is still bolted to the tailhousing.

but i got the 727 bolted in as far as i can go till payday. couple small things left to button up and measure for a shaft.

got it all cleaned up and old one in the shed before rain and temps drop to freezing tonight.

I just hope this used trans is going to work now,i saved it from a PENN state truck that had a engine knock and rust.

Strap was trying to lift the trans for you, take a load off that tired old mount!
Scratch, I went a different way ...I've got a 3.21 rear here for ya.

One of these days it will be fit to drive ... a little front end work coming, and thinking when I do that it is going down some too.

Same bolt pattern (big), the wheels are '03-04 17" 1500 options.
I had to modify some hubcentric spacers, but I am really happy with the look. 1" on front, 2" on back, would have been better with 1 1/2" on back, but couldn't find what I wanted.
Got a deal on the wheels, tires, made up for that by having to adapt, but it is what I had been thinking of for a long time, even before I got the truck.
I think I bought the truck just to try the wheels ...

One of these days ... I'm coming your way with it!

Decided to do a little work on the D100. Adjusted the carb, found a little vacuum leak,changed my oil and tranny mount.
The old one had come apart, the rubber was slid as far to one side as it could go out of the steel mount part.
Of course the replacement was an offshore (India, not Chinese ...)and the sleeve for the thru bolt was too wide, the steel of the mount was 1/2 the thickness, and I had a beeatch of a time.
With my still healing bad eye not working and failing light,the neighbor had to come over and help me finish.

So, I back it up, run it around to the back yard, when I come back there is a large trail of tranny fluid ...you guessed it, I must have broken the fitting on the rear line ...as tight as it looked to my one good eye up in there the crossmember will need to come out.

Two steps forward, one step back ...

I just picked up a mount from india and the last few I have messed with I go right to the bench grinder first to fit the cross shaft in the xmember.

another thing I have had trouble with cheap mounts is they seem to be short or off on the bolt holes to tail housing.

it does not reach to bolts with the cross bolt in the xmember so I have had to cut the slot/hole and pinch it with 1/2 the bolt/washer.

not sure you can get one that fit correct anymore??? I know I have not run across one that just bolted in with no mods or hacking.

do you have some of the brass trans line fittings?

I am droping the drive shaft off for another chop down. 3x for that shaft so far. but should be the last time as it is kinda short now.

and should get the xmember bolted in this weekend. I will post the results of my cheap mount fitting out of the box.

got the dip tube in and bolted up after tweeking the tab on the tube to bolt up.

I know the 1 step forward 2 steps back dance very well my friend.

New filter, and while the pans off adjust the bands, as long as it doesn't look like the pan chunks my Dakota had it will probably serve well.

What fluid do you run? In my 3 speed autos I always use Type F for better shifting, and less foaming.

In my OD autos I have stayed with the Mercon 3 or 4 what ever number they are up to now. Not sure if the Type F will play nice with the OD stuff.

yep type F, already serviced it before it went under the truck.

front pump seal,shifter seal,TPV shaft seal,tailshaft seal,dip tube o-ring,new style pan gasket,filter,band adjustment,TPV linkage installed and adjusted. (all new seals from mopar dealer)

looked ok when I cleaned it up for storage.

droped the shaft for a cut/weld/balance at lunch and will pick it up on the way home tonight. 53" cap center to cap center. 2 new u-joints with a 727 yoke on it.

so far it looks like wally world house brand has the best price on the type F. IIRC 3 gallons will do it. it is dry but the TC has a small amount left in it and a stock truck trans cooler. but I did drain TC when pulled.

Not to hijack, but what are the opinions on using the type F in an OD auto? Any issues to be concerned about?

I would use what is recomended for it.

I use advanced auto house brand type F in all of the junk I drive. I have mixed it with other types when I could not get type F.

I have read where some of the newer trans have trouble with the wrong type of fluid.

For the older stuff it's just red hydraulic fluid. Type F has a higher boiling point. It could run on water for a while.

I don't get it..... are you scared of a tranny rebuild? You seem to be real good with almost any other part of truck.. Why not pull apart a tranny and go through it???????.? I can school you how to backyard the whole thing.

You can pull a pump with a couple of bolts and claw hammer. Drums you can use some long welding vise grips or a clamp to get the drum apart...Stop screwing with used junk and freshen up one yourself

Type F is a poor choice for any OD trans, it lacks the lubricating properties that the constantly-running gears need.

well,got 727 in and down off the ramps,poured 6 quarts of fluid in it..hit all the gears so a test ride is in order. pulls out fine..

shift was early but got to 3rd. stop go to back up.. klunk pow bang locks up dont go forward rev it up bang snatch goes a little slipping then gets going. slips going back up on ramps again.

missed the ramp hit revs bang pow snatch..

well yet again i have insatlled another piece of crap.

dont you think if i could rebuild one I would??? it is just the price I pay for being Ignorant.

i cant even get a used one to hold up for a yr much less rebuild one.

and then the disapointment in a new one not working when or if i got it back together with the $ cost involed would be a little more than I care to bare at the moment. I rolled the dice and shot craps. not the first time and surly not the last.

i have to keep on a positive side with all of this. I am done for the day,cleaned up the tools, truck can sit where it is at.

going to have a couple beers, listen to some tunes, let the disapointment go for the day. sit in my shed and look at my collection of junk.

I will have to decide on my next move. got to figure a way for work Monday or drive the 440 truck which is killing the budget for gas.

bike needs sprockets/chain/brakes

just shot craps with my March Vacaction budget so there goes R&R from work. another stay home week.
