I started my truck this morning to let it warm up for about 10min (6* outside). when i took off to get to the stop sign it died (half block) Everytime i started it it would again die. To get to work (4mi) I had to power brake it at every stop. Did the same thing after work (22*). I have about a 1/4tank of gas and havent bought any since early december. After work I put in a bottle of heet in and drove it about 10 miles. Still dies at idle. Does anyone have any suggestions? It runs great with no stumbles as long as my foot is on the accelerator. Is there maybe a sensor or something that could be bad? Only code it read off was for battery disconnect. Thanks Eric

The first thing I'd do is add a few gallons of gas and see if it cures the problem. Read this:

And after you put some gas in it, if it still does it, remove the throttle boddy and IAC sensor---the one on the front thats held in by two torx screws---and with a can of carb cleaner and a rag, some Q-tips and what ever else that is not sharp and pointy (no metal picks to damage surfaces), clean the throttle body out real good until it looks new. Then soak the rag and wipe the pointy tip of the IAC motor untill it is clean. reset the computer by disconeccting the battery.

Before you put it on, look down into the intake to see if there is a wet oily film on the bottom. If it is, your plenum gasket on the bottom of the intake is leaking and needs to be replaced.

Reinstall the throttle body and hopefully it should cure the issue. If not, my next question would be when was the last time it had a full tune up.

Yup, sounds like an Idle Air Control valve (IAC) is hanging up. It's not a sensor.

Ok thanks guys. I will try your suggestions. The truck had a tune up when I bought it in 2011. It only has Id say 6k miles on it since.

That is a good point also, I had some funky electrical stuff going on (nothing that kept it from running though) until I replaced the battery this year in ours. The old battery was 8+ years old.

Finally got around to pulling the iac off. Cleaned it and the hole it sits in out with qtips, shop rag and carb cleaner. Also cleaned up the battery terminals. Truck fired up and kept running so I think we got it. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

^^^ I've had same problem. Battery was good enough to start it. But too weak. Replaced and cured it's dying problem. Good luck!

You should have pulled the TB off the intake and cleand all of it. The edge of the throttle blades get a thin layer of carbon as well as the bores. This effects idle speeds and can cause some stalling also. I would suggest removing it as I stated above and do a complete job.
