Hi, new to this forum, I bought this 72 charger many years ago, its a SE 440 4 barrel car-original numbers matching car, it has a block casting number of 3698830-440-7, the date code on the block passengers side is 6-11-72 the vin numbers on the block match the vin numbers on the title. I would like to know what does the dash 7 after 440 mean and also shown in the picture below what does 6 6 hp2 located on the front top of the block pad area near the distributor mean? Does it mean that it has 6 pack rods and came with a 6 pack carb set up or just heavy duty 6 pack rods? I was hoping that this is one of those 6 pack motors that slipped throught the assembly line back in 72, also anyone have any idea of the production number of this car is? thanks for any information, James. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=k00nrc&s=4

The 6 6 is an assembly date standing for June, most likley, the 16th or 26th. (There appears to be a digit missing from the stamping. Otherwise your engine would have been assembled before the block was cast on 6-11.)
(( or are you saying the car's scheduled production date is 6-11? That would make sense for an engine assembly of 6 6 ))
The HP means it's a high performace engine assembly, compared to a non HP 440, and the 2 means it was assembled on the second shift.
The stamping only signifies an assembly date and nothing else.
the -7 after the 440 is a core revision code meaning the original casting core was revised six times since the original.

Hi, thanks for all the information, the 6 6 hp 2 has two blank spots with no stamping between the 6 6, I guess I was trying to find out if the 6 6 number meant it had 6 pack rods, how do I find out if it could be a 6 pack motor?

If your VIN has a V for the engine code & the engine is original to the car.
It is not a sixpak engine.
