I'm putting an aluminum 6 Pack intake on my car and was wondering what the weight difference is between that and the cast iron version.

I'm not sure what the cast iron intake weighs but aluminum is roughly 1/3 that amount.

I had a cast iron 6pk on my 69 RR , when I removed the intake the front end lifted up about a 1/2" .

Darn. Well, weigh yours and post it and maybe someone will weigh their cast iron job. I should have, but it's bolted to the engine now.

I show the weights of a bunch of different engine parts in my B-body book. I tried to take pictures and get weights for all of the common "bolt on" parts.

Cast iron = 38.6 lb
6Pk Alum. = 22.2 Lb

However, if you are looking at overall weight savings, the three Holleys weigh considerbly more than an AFB/AVS, closing the weight difference gap.

I think he wants to know the weight difference between a cast iron 6 pack intake and an aluminum 6 pack intake. Both would have the 3 2bbl Holley carbs...

Weighed on my house scale as pictured, it weighs 42 lbs.

If aluminum is .39 the weight of cast iron as stated above, then a similar equipped cast iron intake should weigh:

42 lbs
----- = 107 lbs.
.39

Right?

No.

Mine weighs about 39.5 lbs intake and carbs and fuel line (w/o kick-down and throttle bracket)

So, using your 42 lbs:

22/.39 = 56 for cast iron intake.

Carbs, brackets and fuel line weight about 20 lbs.

about 75ish pounds total

I don't think carbs and fuel lines weigh 20 lbs.

If the intake weighs 22 lbs without the carbs, and it 42 with the carbs, where do you think the other 20 lbs comes from? Okay, 18 lbs.

You're saying it weighs 22 lbs without the carbs. Do you know that for a fact? I'm saying I don't think the carbs weigh 20 lbs.

Huh.

No need to apologize. That's a bit of an eye opener for me, thanks for bringing that up. Six-Pack breather is no feather-weight either........

Then what's your point? I could also guess at the weight of a cast iron intake but I want the actual weight.

If anyone has a cast iron intake with mounted carbs that can be weighed then that would be close.

Doesn't anyone have a cast iron intake that can be weighed?

Didn't you see his post above giving the weight of the alum 6 pk manifold and a cast iron 4bbl ?

The cast iron setup with carbs does not weigh 107 is what he is saying.

I'm going to ask a real STUPID question ... why does it matter ? If the iron weighs only 10 lbs more are you going to trade the alum. one for an iron one ? The iron one is not correct for 69 ... if that matters ....
