Well I have started on the dissasembly of the car that Rico bought early this year and had out at the Spring Fling in Van Nuys back in April. Me and 2 other mopar guys have done a little horsetrading and will give this car a basic freshing up and another chance to hit the streets. We are stripping pretty much everything minus the suspension so it can be rolled to the body shop for paint and body work. Once it returns we will replace all parts with new where needed and cleaned up original pieces. The car was minus its original engine, 3spd trans and 3rd member in the rear end housing. It does still have its original exaust manifolds and complete exhaust system that will be cleaned and reinstalled. This is not going to be a complete nut and bolt deal but we will make the sure the car is very nice and presentable. It seems that the 68 440/4spd that is in the car has been there a while looking at all the grease and dirt. I am not sure what modifications were made to the car vs factory details and will post many pictures in hope that some more knowlegable than I can point out some specific maxie details. It does have some very early looking traction bar setup like Caltracs and wonder if they are homemade or something that was sold over the counter way back when. So here are some pictures in no particular order.

The '63 maxi car i just sold also had the remains of the same traction bar set-up. I found advertisements in early '60's magazines listing the manufacturer. I'll dig them up and list it.

This is Rico's car, I'd known about it for many years before he bought it. It's the real deal and a 3 speed stick car to boot!

I have an article about Bill Mavericks 63 Dodge when he just got it and road tested it. But he added bars that look like that as I was surprised to see something that kinda looked like Caltracs from back in 1963. I will try to dig it up. Ron

Forgive my ignorance and foggy memory, but I remember reading once that some racers preferred 4 doors (I believe up until some type of rule change)and the claim was that the added structural components made the cars a little stiffer. Is this car evidence of that?

Neat project! That's going to be fun no matter what you do with it, particularly being a 4 door. My feeble brain remembers variations of that traction setup being somewhat common. One even went backwards rather than forward of the rear end housing, but I'm pretty sure that one was a racer's own creation at the time. Too many years ago now.

Congratulations on a great project.
