i bought Hooker Flanges & collectors off Summit & then bought bends from a local muffler shop. fabricated everything up with taped joints til i was sure & tacked them with the mig. then i could remove them, weld them up nice, grind back my welds so they looked pretty under a nice header coating. i know mine aren't equal length but it sure is easy to work on & around.

with the Hooker flanges n collectors came a pair of their embossed logo's which i tacked on. it sure messes with the heads of the newbies who think you can buy pipes like this from the manufacturer.

Hedmans race plant is in either N.C. or S.C., they offer kits of bends of both sizes you need and they also offer either flange kits with welded stubs or plain precut flanges Summit also sells bend kits, check around for what you need. I ended up buying all the parts from Hedman through Summit to do two different cars, one with 2 inch kit and a 2 1/8 kit to make them step to a 3.5 inch collectors and the other is from 2 1/8 to 2 1/4 primarys into a 4 inch collector with welded 2 1/8 stubs I had Summit have Hedman drop ship all the the part to me direct Not cheap though, shop around first

Doing a set on a 71 dart chassis car with a 655 indy motor now. I get 90% of my header parts from link below. Goodluck

Since we're talking about building headers, where can I get that star shaped filler piece that fills in the space between the primary pipes before the collector is put on? I don't know what that piece is called, so its hard to find it online.

that star piece was part of my Hooker collector, the tubes slid in til they bottomed out on the back of that merge point.

Check Stahl for header kits.
I got my tubes and collectors from them and bought the W-9 flanges from SPD.
They sell theirs in varying stages of completion and make a nice part IMO.
As for the star , I liked Headers By Ed 's approach.
He heats the tubes where they transition into the collector and pulls the inside of the tubes in with a needle nose vise grip , so where the four tubes come together get the appearance of a cross. He claimed this was worth 5 h.p. on the dyno as I recall.

Ed has a good audio tape on header building.

I priced out the stuff I used.Jegs 21/4 chassis header kit 555-31886 $130 They also come with 4"collectors
Columbia River flanges and box of tubing and bends
hf-ms38-bbm-200 3/8 flanges $30 each you can due 1/2 flanges for 10 more dollars I believe
ubk-16-225-300-ms large box of bends and some straight $112
The box of bends and tubing was overkill.Just wanted to make sure to have enough. It did come in handy done the road for other projects.
When I built a set we used 2" and was already started. You may even be able to do a set with out the extra bends. It sure made it easy with them though. You are looking around $300 to do a set in mild steel.
Hope that helps!

I bought the Jegs 2 1/4" kit for a big block chevy. All I need now are the D-port Hemi flanges. Found them for a $100. I don't like the Jeg's collectors and will use a merge.
