I bought a new set of pulleys that were suppose to be for the new crate motor but wouldn't line up. They were used, someone had started elongating new holes.
Anyhow we were able to end up using the 440 one. I know the Hemi pulleys weren't cheap.

Is the new Hemi balancer on the crate motors set up for the old (68-71) thick balancer pulleys or it it set up for the BB pulleys?
No , its setup to use B/RB pulleys and altenator placement, whats odd is they sell a spacer and a repop of a 69 up hemi lower pulley to fit the asymetric bolt pattern and not the symetric bolt pattern of the balancer they install on the engines ...
To the OP , you either have to buy a $400 plus used original or repop thick balancer , modify that one hole or only use 3 bolts.
An alternative is to go to a 66-68 pulley arangement by using std B/RB pulleys , but again if you have an early crank pulley the bolt pattern is going to be off on that one hole .

It's simple. The crate motor uses a balancer with the depth dimension like a 440. As for the bolt pattern, older balancers had one bolt hole positioned different than the newer balancers. Some of the stock pulleys had one hole elongated from the factory so they would fit on either balancer. Other pulleys didn't have the elongation, and only fit one balancer. So as has been done for years, rotate the pulley till it lines up with all the holes, and if it doesn't line up with one, elongate it a little, and it will be just like the factory pulleys that came that way.
