Well, I spent a few bucks and had some upgrades done to the old Ram. It is a 5.7 hemi with cnc ported heads with 6.1 size valves, a sidewinder cam, long tube headers, cnc ported throttle body, cold air intake, cat delete and a custom tune via a diablosport handheld. I dynoed this truck at the mopar nationals last August when it had just the headers, throttle body and cold air intake and it made a 268 rwhp. Not bad, but really just about 10-15 more rwhp than a stock one. So, I went ahead and did the cam, heads and finally tuned it. On the first pull this last tuesday, the truck was sounding good and the power and torque was up on the graph everywhere. All was well until the end of the first pull. OUCH! The truck did make 339 rwhp without the final tune, but now Im worried about what might have caused the driveshaft to spit it and rip in half. New shaft is on the way and it should be back on the dyno tomorrow. Provided nothing else was hurt like the trans internals or the axle. What do you guys think made this shaft come flying out?

Here is a link to the video and a picture of the driveshaft.

Failed bound, or loose u-joints.

Boy that was scary, glad no body got hurt. Id be taking that tranny out and closely inspect the tail shaft housing, and guts.

Ive seen a lot of those trucks with bound up u-joints. That will make just as bad of a vibration as a loose half ground off u-joint.

That truck is making some steam man! Thats awesome!!

I'm betting it was out of true(slightly bent)... if
you notice it started NEAR the middle of the shaft

The Sidewinder has pretty high cylinder pressure. It will make some torque, as you already know lol.

My Build thread: Let the hemi swap begin!

im gonna say it broke because of hitting the post for the rack.. could have bent more because of the impact with the ground flying out at 100mph.. but maybe loose bolts

All in all, Im happy with the power it made. That was an improvement of 70 plus rwhp over the last pull I made in August. As of right now, there is one more tune we are going to try with a little more fuel and advancing the timing another degree, I would like to see 345 rwhp with that one. First things first though, Im hoping the driveshaft is the only thing that got hurt and we can put the new one in and go. If the trans or axle is hurt or both, this thing is getting a converter and some 4:56's. Might as well if I have to get in there!

I know I jumped, can't imagine being there!
Cool truck. I want to start modding my Challenger along the same lines, but then again, I kinda don't. Lol.
