I beleve the dealer can reflash and there may be a kit that by-passes it on Gino's site. But I could be wrong.

The dealer can reflash the TIPM, but it will NOT fix an internal problem

I've replaced a lot of those for stupid different reasons. 2006 was about the worst when it came to those causing issues. Last time I replaced one I think they were about $700 plus you have to have it programmed to your vehicle. Good luck on it.

POS crap. dealer just quoted $900 for a new one and something like another $200 plus to install it and flash it for the truck.
...all because one high beam won't work. Yes, the 2006 Ram.

Gawd I love my old crap; what's a 4001 sealed beam worth? 5 bucks?

You dont need to program it to the vehicle just disconnect the batter plug it in and reconnect, then turn the key on for a min before you start it.

From what I've been told yes, it will start and move by doing that but you run the risk of some of the options on the vehicle not working properly. That is why they have to program it to the vehicle.

Yes you need to program it. The cluster and the TIPM store all the vehicle options and Mopar said if you replace one it will send the info to the other over the bus but it never works that way when I was doing them. Had to hook it up to the Dealer scanner/computer as it will get the info by the vin off the internet thru Mopar.
I tell you I had a Durango one day hit by lightening and it took out every computer and pressure switch on the truck. That was even more work to program since nothing on the truck had the vin stored in it. Ron

If the board has an open circuit it is possible to do the repair yourself. I lost all running lights on my o2 Ram 1500 and it turned out to be a corroded portion of the board.
There is a very good writeup on how to perform this surgery on the dieseltruckresource forum at the links below.
I have alos included pics of the repair that I did on mine. I just used a dremmel tool to remove the the protective coating on the board. With a 10 watt soldering iron I "tinned" each side of the break. I then "tinned" a short length of wire bent at a 90 degree angle to give me something to hold on to and absorb any excess heat. just a quick dab on each end of the wire bridging the gap was all it took. I then clipped off the excess with (not shown in the pics) and reassembled the box. Its been working fine for about 3 weeks.

Anyone replaced one of these lately, I am having issues with a '06 Dakota causing intermittent trans issues. I see aftermarket ones on the web from a bunch of sources other than the dealer
