So I've been driving my truck for 10 years now without any problems. A month ago, a guy pulls up beside me to tell me I have no brake lights. I check the fuse and its blown. I replace the fuse and its good to go. I check the brake lights several days in a row with no problems. Yesterday my neighbor follows me to my driveway to tell me I have no brake lights.

Why would I start blowing fuses all of a sudden?

Could a socket be bad? If it was a short - wouldn't it blow instantly when I apply the brakes?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and shared experiences.

You have a short somewhere it sounds like to me. If you have trailer wiring or have pulled a trailer lately with a short it could also be your problem. I would inspect the wiring harness under the truck first for chaffing or a broken loose wire. Again, if there is trailer wiring that is tapped into the main harness I would look there first. If you have an electric trailer brake controller, check it out also.

Why yes I did tow my trailer recently - and I have not done so in many years. I reckon I'll be climbing under there for some inspectin'.

How could hooking up the trailer "start" a problem? The short was created through the wiring to the trailer - that normally wouldn't happen without a "draw" on those wires with no trailer?

As said good visual in that circuit from head to toe for the loose connection that's makeing an occaisional dead short to ground that's blowing the fuse. The socket(s) at the rear might be a logical place to start. Holler what it ends up being
