The best gaskets were the factory ones. They were also sold as a MP product. Unfortunately they may be hard to find since I believe they have been discontinued. The gaskets I am refering to are grey in color and are ribbed rubber with a steel core and plastic grommets for the bolt holes. They seal really well and are almost infinitely reuseable. I use a thin coat of RTV on the valve cover side at least when using steel valve covers. Nothing on the head side. I've had the same set of gaskets on two different engines and they have been on and off more times than I can remember. Still seal perfectly. I was able to find a spare set at the Indy swap meet/trade show a couple of years ago and grabbed them up. You might find a dealer somewhere with some old stock. IMO they are better than anything else out there. Good luck.

Yes, those are the ones. Price is quite a bit higher than what I paid, but since you probably won't ever need to buy another set still worth it.

Thanks for the replies. I have to admit that I am surprised that the MP gaskets are that good. I was expecting Cometic with the top vote.
I will check with my local parts stores to see if they can get the MP gasket set for me.
Thanks again!

Kent,
Thanks allot for the Monicatti suggestion. I had never heard of them and I went to their web sight and I bought the gasket set for the $48.45 + $15 shipping. I am still waiting on delivery estimate.

My local stores could not find the gaskets in stock. Summit shows them in stock today but not yesterday and they were at the $60 mark. My local Dodge dealership could not even find a set any closer than 6 states away and they showed a history of back order issues.

Thank you again!!

I love this site

I received the "581" gaskets today. I was surprised to see that they are .18" thick and they come with bolts and special washers.

Thanks again for your help with the part number.

Does 40 in/lbs sound correct for the torque spec?

I won't argue the torque spec even though it sounds a little light to me. At 40 in. lbs. I would recheck them every so often. I've had mine on and off so often that I don't ever use a torque wrench on them. I simply rely on the built in grommets and experienced touch. I've had mine for more years than I can remember and they still seal tight.
