In the attached picture the check ball in question is in the top center of the transfer plate picture on the right. Just left of where the filter is listed. I am installing the kit according to the hot rod - off road - street/strip -- full race configuration. To me I fall under the "street/strip" designation. 727 is stock including the torque converter.

Question is do I take this check ball out (check ball was present in my stock VB) or leave it in? Based on exact wording it should stay as it says to only remove for off road - full race - hot rod (doesn't mention street-strip). However, as instructions leave a bit to be desired wanted to confirm that street/strip was just not left out inadvertently. As an example I have read in the past that instruction #2 on the same instruction page that says to drill the pictured separator plate hole out to 3/16th should be followed even on a street car if hole r is not present, but "street/strip" is not listed in the instruction there either. so i guess question 2 is whether or not anyone disagree with drilling that hole out to 3/16th for a street.strip application? my separator plate has only 1 smaller hole there now and no checkball under that location in the transfer plate

figured now is the time to ask as it is simple to deal with now.

TIA

drill the hole bigger, and install a ball.

Drill the hole to 3/16" or larger but DO NOT install a ball...doing so will shut off the rear servo.

The reference to a ball in that location is only if the plate has two holes and an existing ball.

John,
Sorry I think I confused you. My hand written notes on the instruction sheet probably didn't help. I will drill out the rear servo hole larger. This is near where the accumulator spring recess is on the transfer plate.

The check ball in question is not under that rear servo feed hole, but is towards the front of the car. see red arrow in the photo attached to this reply...on the right hand photo of the transfer plate at the top center. I believe that this ball should stay for street/strip since it was present before modification? From Munroe book looks like it feeds the rear clutch apply port,... possibly?

The check ball at the red arrow is the rear clutch feed; although most sources say to toss this ball I think it serves a useful purpose. It protects the rear clutch Belleville.

I'm in the process of installing one of these TF2 kits too. I was confused about this step as well. My valve body has one hole at the "R" location and no ball. I just drilled it out to 3/16". The way I read these instructions was to install the ball as well. Is this wrong???

If the "R" location had a single hole and no ball, installing a ball is wrong. The ball is only for the plates that original had two holes and a ball in that location.

I can't answer your question but I know that the kit instructions have changed several times over the years and some people prefer the earlier versions.
