my rollmaster timing set is wore out. the gears wore and not the chain. which way would the cam timing go adv or ret with worn out gears?

The cam timing will retard.

I disagree.
The timing will be eratic.

Just had a cutomer come in for a tune up. It was a totally stock 383 with lots of miles. Put the timing light on it and the timing mark was jumping all over the place at rpm. A new timing gear set took care of that issue.

Also, as chains stretch and gears wear it will retard the timing which is why some cam manufactures add in +4.

ok, just spoke with bullet cams about time issue with all my readings being advanced(below 100*). they told me something simular to what Mike told me to try. bar crank to intake open point i want(33*) and them rotate cam to .50" open and install chain.
