Any ideas on what i could do to make my rusty TTI headers look better?? The ceramic coating is all but gone now and with the new pipes it looks awful.

I dont have the space or energy with my messed up back to take them off and recoat them so any ideas on what i could do on the car to make them look better??

Thanks
Stu

One of my young turbo-dude friends turned me on to Bar-be-cue black.may not appeal to you, but you just quickly sand off the surface rust, throw a sheet on anything you need to protect from overspray, and it's easy to touch up if needed every so often.

Yes i am going to do something that is black to match the rest of the exhaust. That is a good idea with the BBQ paint.

I was also thinking of some sort of header wrap maybe??

well to wrap it properly, you'll have to take the headers out. clean em' up good, prime then paint with high temp paint, then wrap em up, reinstall. Otherwise you'll run into the same problems

Simple, decide that it's hopeless, remove them and get them refinished properly.

Hopeless....never!! Not while J.C. Whitney is still in business!

I know that's the right thing to do but not having a garage to work in i need a way to do it fairly quick and easy.....I know what you are going to say...... no such thing!

Careful with the header wrap it will degrade the pipes way faster than just letting the cancer go how it is.

Is that because it keeps the moisture in the pipes??

Dont feel bad Stu.. the headers on the 73 are in the same condition.. altho I did spray them with silver paint a few years..

However they still need to come off and I planned to take them to Sandersons.. the next time that its convenient..

BTW.. slightly off subject... Did you know that Ron's place in San Mateo is still in business? I've been leary of going there because Ron was such an ***... but now that he's gone, I'm waiting for feedback from other before I have anything done..

I would rather see a set of rusty headers then look at a set of rusty headers with paint cover up,IMO.

Yes and it also keeps the heat in which is good for keeping gas velocity up and engine bay temp down but speeds up the metal breaking down.

You could paint them with some high temp POR 15. I used a foam brush to paint some and then ran them up to temp several times and they still look good.

On my 66 Toronado I used a brush and a can of Rust-O-Leum BBQ paint, came out great and cake to touch up if needed.

Brush suluric acid on the rust& when the metal is shiney again rinse with water heat them up to dry & while they're still really warm spray the barbque paint on them I've done that a bunch of times & it works

Thanks everyone for the great ideas!!

I think the idea of painting them with a foam brush sounds pretty easy!

So how do you suggust removing the rust? I saw about putting acid on them but maybe just a wire wheel on a cordless drill is better??
