The dash tag, fender tag & title were offered for sale on Ebay back in 2008. The seller stated that they had been removed "some 25 years ago".

Link to the 'car' now for sale;

I'll list a couple photos from the 2008 ad also.

Looked at his feedback. He bought most of the parts to build that car on ebay

Hopefully this gets out to enough people. I see that there have been two offers made on the car based on the listing.

Must have been built on double Leap year as the build date show 931.
There are only 30 days in September.
good Job Barry.

A fair number of 1970 model year Hamtramck tags show the 931 scheduled production date.

Yet another nail in the coffin for the folks that think it is the actual build date.

Man he was lucky to find the body that matched the VIN and fender tags...can't be long until the matching #'s drivetrain shows up...

Did he use an A/C body I don't see any code on the fender tag for A/C.

Maybe the fender tags were not coded for A/C.

The VIN has been listed since 2008 at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/found.shtml for anyone who wants to check.

Someone must have got to him...check out the latest modification to the ad:

This is not a numbers matching car nor am I trying to sell it as one.Anyone that thinks they can build a car of this caliber cheaper please find a car and GOOD LUCK !!! I know what I have and what I have spent so if you are interested in a EXTREMELY NICE CAR here it is.If you have comments keep them to yourself or go buy that all original car that everyone THINKS they have or can get so cheap !!!! Please dont waist my time with lowball offers. My Buy it Now isnt far off. This isn"t a car thrown together for a quick sale nor do I need to sell it.The build costs are more than I have it priced and its a very fresh resto. After this add ends there will be no more chances because I'm going to KEEP it and drive it EVERYDAY the roads are not wet.

Hmmm, I sure want to buy stuff from this guy! He can't spell, is thin skinned, cries "I'm taking my ball and going home!" when called out... nice. It's fun to deal with children.

Can anyone selling a bogus car on Ebay properly spell the word "waste"? Apparently not, I've seen it so many times.

Great job Barry!

Has anyone informed the E-bay seller that what he is doing is illegal and we have the proof to his crime.

ought-ohhhh......someone must be Vewy, Vewy upset - (Elmer Fudd) and ended the auction early? Must have taken the low ball and went home and accepted an offer outside of fee-pay. The two offers were 45k & 46k with a starting bid of 50, maybe he worked it out so that no other details about the cars history are exposed to potential buyers??

seems like this thread contains enough info, to make a call to the state police in his state, and give them the info for rebodying a vin tag and title.

That would have been me. hehehe I emailed him and told him that was a lot of money for a rebodied car and that that vin.fender tag and title was sold on ebay in 2008. He wasn't very happy with me. But that is a lot of money for what it is.

Appreciate the heads up on this car. Such vigilance will surely help enthusiasts avoid costly mistakes and disappointments. (Car looks awesome but invaluable to have the background on it!)

I see strong evidence that this car is a rebody, but I don't see clear evidence that he did it or knew about it.

It's entirely possible he knew he wanted a 70 Challenger, started collecting parts (none of us have ever bought parts for a car we didn't own, right? ), and then bought the car somewhere, either as a pile of parts or as a project that had already been rebodied.

His aggravated response could be expected if anonymous people began telling him that he and/or his car was a fraud.

His aggravated response could just as easily stem from a rebody scammer being outed...it doesn't much matter now, the correct course of action is clear: avoid this car at any price.

I reported it to a couple folks in law enforcement I know. The information was passed on to one of their agents. The only other detail I know so far is that they are trying to ID the donor body. If the original body stamps are there that should not take long.

Good job!!!

What's unfortunate - is, who knows what will happen to the car once it does get impounded .. hopefully it doesn't get destroyed... it was clean looking.

They usually confiscate the donor numbers & the car ends up with a state issued VIN based on the body numbers, but it varies by state.

If they can prove criminal intent or if the body was stolen, it is a whole different ball game.

Great job.

I have a feeling we will see the car again with a state issued VIN at a much lower price.

as a lifetime Mopar fanatic.....it just nauseates me to no end about all of the fraud out there! There are so many shady @##$%^&'# that knowingly do this stuff everyday and you really have to know what to look for or know someone who knows what to look for so the buyer doesn't get taken for a bad ride!

I see this as a positive outcome as well. The more times this happens the more the fraudsters will think twice about doing it.

Could you title it with the factory body numbers if it wasn't stolen? Glad it is getting resolved and hopefully nobody lost money without the knowledge.

Somewhat less than a JH23C0BXXXXXX with a clean original title IMO.

I think it depends on what state has what rules?? I have a Challenger with an Arizona state issued plate and they stamped the original VIN on it.

Depends on state, but the few I've seen use the original VIN, sometimes with a state prefix. Here's one from Kansas for a Chevelle, with what looks like the original Chev VIN.
