Had my 70 Challenger RT to the Shop to have it aligned. It Was wearing the insides of tires out so I wanted it right before buying New Rubber. The shop said the Toe was way out and they have the Caster and Camber to Specifications. I have not bought the new Tires yet but when I was bringing it home, every time I pull out turning to the Left the front tires are squealing. It never did that before. Is it just the way the tires are worn or do I still have something out of alignment? Want to be sure before dropping $$$ on tires!

Thanks for the Help

Sounds like they made a mistake. EDIT I think that kind of scrubbing could only come from way out toe in or toe out. Holler how it turns out

I may be having a "fuzzy memory" but from my experience, the shops around here wouldn't align a car with worn tires. In theory it shouldn't matter, since they attach the instruments to the wheels not the tires.
Squealing could be because the wheels are now IN alignment and they are making the tires make contact in a different area than before. Do you have a spare pair of decent tires on rims that you can try?

I know many years ago the old Bear shops used a Toe gauge that measured inside the first tread on each tire and they wanted new or really good tires on the car. I thought all the new Machines eliminated that. I do not have any other tires and wheel to try.
Thanks for your thoughts!

The tires shouldn't make a difference to the alignment so long as the pressures were set right. That being said I have seen issues depending on how worn the tires were with pulls after alignment. I would ask to see a before and after printout which should be no problem with any newer alignment rack.

If you are running radial tires and he set it to original spec, most likely the positive camber is causing the squealing tires.Has nothing to do with you're old worn tires.when turning- camber goes more positive.A print out of the alignment would help. A good rule of thumb for todays tires/old cars is camber about o- both side caster high as you can get.2-3 deg positive is ideal.about 1/8 toe in. sounds like the tires are running on the outside edge when turning.check tire pressure also. The alignment tech should of done that, but check anyway. worn tires should not cause that problem.

I had that problem on a B body .found out the one spindle was tweaked (bumped ) at one time and it changed the accerman. That is the way the two tires turn in unison the one wheel turned at the wrong rate and squealed. If you know any circle track racers they deal with this all the time.

Manual Steering car and it drives nice. Wheel is Centered when going straight. Does not pull left or right. On straight stretches you can relax hands on wheel and it stays straight.

Thank you
