I just got done rebuilding the 2 bbl carb on my truck. This valve is not holding vacuum. But I don't know where to get another one, or even what it does or what it's called. It's the one on the far left with the hose still on it, and linked to the choke arm (oh, and these pics were taken before I rebuilt the carb).
A little help here please.

It is the choke pull off pot/diaphragm. It's purpose is to slightly open the choke butterfly after the engine starts to help prevent an over rich condition. It might be available at some auto parts stores.

It's called a choke pull-off. It pulls the choke butterfly open against the closing force of the choke thermostat.

Would this cause a vacuum leak, 'cause it won't hold vacuum?
You people are the best.
Thanks

Well I've got that port capped off with a rubber cap for now. Seems to run a bit better. I ordered a new one, will be in tomorrow a 1:00.
Thanks again all.

New ones also need adjusted when installed. Those I believe you use a drill in between the choke and carb body and pull vacuum on the pull off. Then the arm gets bent.Sometimes you get lucy and its real close.Been years since I did them.Used to have angle gauges and different size bits to set them at work.Rocky

Agreed with above, and you'd be sunk w/out that thing working in a cold climate.

That valve also pulls open the choke plate under part throttle conditions till the choke thermo pulls it completely open once the engine is warmed up .

Thank you all for your help. I have replaced the choke pull off valve (see, I know what to call it now), and all is right with the world again.
As far as "which one are am I talking about"? I think the part about " It's the one on the far left with the hose still on it" should have cleared it up nicely.

Hey Mike,

If you move to WA I'll give you an Edelbrock RPM and a holley 4bbl all ready to go! Oh, and a completely rebuilt 9 1/4" rear with aftermarket shafts, new gears/bearings. But you have to MOVE, not visit. Heck; I'll give you the entire 360 engine, recently rebuilt and complete.

Did I forget to mention that we have no smog laws and that because WA is in the United States of America, the 2nd Amendment pertains so you can actually own firearms??

Yes I see 2 vacum valves also. The one at the back of the carb is the choke pull-off and the one close to the front looks like an AC idle up valve. Ron

Man! What a contraption Can you imagine engineering that from scratch?

Damn Danan, you make it tempting.
All I'd have to do is retire early (live on a diminished income), sell everything at a loss ('cause the economy sucks right now), move away from every bit of family we have, and move everything 12 hours 41 mins/750.2 mi to the north. I think I'll wait it out.
By the way, how you doing? No hear from for quite a while (WTF). Everyones been asking (I have nothing to give them)!

Mike,

EVERYONE lives on a diminished income in WA; you'll fit right in. Did I forget to mention that the 360 has an actual 9:1 compression ratio so it'll actually get out of it's own way?

Things are going well overall. Good days and bad days, as you would expect. Doing a lot of good things and there isn't another place I'd rather be right now. I'm happier doing what I do over here than anything I could do back in the States; especially during an election year.

Send my best to the family and all our buds. Also, I'll be seeing you guys in the not-so-distant future. By the way, how many guys show up to coffee these days??
