An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car running 7.49 (*4.49) or quicker. For full-bodied cars running 7.50 (*4.50) to 9.99 (*6.39) or if vehicle runs 135 mph or faster a ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory unless otherwise specified by class requirements. SFI 27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture. Window net must be securely mounted on the inside of the roll cage, with the permanent attachment at the bottom. All attachment points must be designed in an attempt to protect the driver and avoid contact with track surface or guardwall. Eyelet clips, dogleash hardware, hose clamps, etc. prohibited. Penetration of webbing, except as performed by manufacturer, prohibited. Any modification to net must be performed by manufacturer.

Bob,

You are correct, but like most Mopar owners, you are just a bit late to the party.

Per the email I got this morning from Rich Bowers, Div 3 tech director:

This week’s TTQ #10 is on the 2012 NHRA Rule Amendment covering window nets. If you log on to www.nhraracer.com and on the left side click on to Rules, then on 2012 Rule Book Amendments you can scroll down to see all the rule changes. I have copied below the window net rule changes that will affect Super Pro and Advanced ET as this will cover most of you. S/ST, SG, SC, Stock and SS also have window net amendments for full-bodied cars.
SECTION 4A: SUPER PRO, PRO, SPORTSMAN, INTERIOR:6, WINDOW NET (Page 5) (3/5/2012)
Window net meeting SFI 27.1 mandatory in any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll cage. A ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory for any full-bodied car running 7.50 (*4.50) to 9.99 (*6.39) or if vehicle runs 135 mph or faster.See General Regulations 6:3.

SECTION 4B:ADVANCED E.T., INTERIOR:6, WINDOW NET (Page 11) (3/5/2012)
An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car running 6.00 (*3.66) to 7.49 (*4.49). SFI 27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture. See General Regulations 6:3.

SECTION 20: GENERAL REGULATIONS, INTERIOR: 6, WINDOW NET (Page 29) (3/5/2012)
An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll cage. SFI 27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture..

That means if you have a ribbon type, you dont have to have it updated every 2 years IF you run slower than 7.50 in the 1/4 mile.

Thanks NHRA! NOT!~ Now I just spent over $90 with shipping as my net is custom and did not need to. So how did all of a sudden did NHRA figure the ribbon nets are still good?

Effective 3-5 2012. If your car is slower than 7.49 your ribbon type 27.1 window net does not have to be changed every 2 years......the mesh type were always supposed to be changed every 2 years anyway....
