NHRA has changed its thoughts on the window net rule for cars slower than 7.49 (4.50). The section in RED has been REMOVED and replaced by the section in BLUE.

SECTION 20: GENERAL REGULATIONS, INTERIOR: 6, WINDOW NET (Page 29) (3/5/2012) An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll cage. An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car running 7.49 (*4.49) or quicker. For full-bodied cars running 7.50 (*4.50) to 9.99 (*6.39) or if vehicle runs 135 mph or faster a ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory unless otherwise specified by class requirements. SFI 27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture. Window net must be securely mounted on the inside of the roll cage, with the permanent attachment at the bottom. All attachment points must be designed in an attempt to protect the driver and avoid contact with track surface or guardwall. Eyelet clips, dogleash hardware, hose clamps, etc. prohibited. Penetration of webbing, except as performed by manufacturer, prohibited. Any modification to net must be performed by manufacturer.

NHRA members can find this information in the "Rulebook amendments" section on the www.nhraracer.com site.

This change means the SFI ribbon style nets are not needed until you run faster than 7.49. So you don't need to be changing your ribbon net every 2 years, unless you have a mesh style net, or run faster than 7.49 (4.50)

As usual someone is on the ball with changes. Some of us have already run two divisional races and purchased new stuff. Oh well it looks so much better than the perfectly good one it replaced

I hope I can still cancell my back order for a new window net. My current ribbon type is only 2 years old.

I hate spending money on something of no benefit and no longer required.

EDIT: Summit was able to cancel my backorder. This was ordered on 2/7, first delay to 3/3, then to 3/11. Evidently a lot of people were ordering these, many more than more years. Likely due to the NHRA rule mess.

Too late for me. Already redone my mount, purchased a new ribbon net and canned a perfectly good mesh net.

Eliminates confusion as to whether or not a 10 sec car with cage needs a net.
Not me being confused... tech directors...

I don't know what your talking about. Your last sentence about not changing a ribbon net every 2 yrs contradicts what the rules says. I've read it 3 times. If you run between 7.50 and 9.99 with a ribbon net you have to change it every 2 yrs.

It's always fun teching a 10 sec car that has a full cage.... and we went with the window net because there was always some tech moron that said it was required with a cage.

In english, decifered for you who continue to struggle:
MESH type nets have always been replaced every 2 years.
RIBBON type were allowed to be used longer, then the rulebook changed it to every 2 years, then NHRA got major backlash, now they have relented, and returned to allowing RIBBON type nets to continue in use.

You need to look a little closer.

27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture.

Sorta like reading stereo instructions. But yes, the simple answer is the common ribbon nets only need to have a current SFI cert if you go faster than 7.50. ALL Mesh nets must be SFI cert.

All cars running nets that are required to be certified must have them re-certified or replaced every 2 years.

The key wording there is "ribbon type OR SFI 27.1 Mesh Type"

Doesn't say SFI Ribbon Type..

But, like Al.. Have already spent the money.. Thanks again NHRA..
