Here are some from a place downriver.

They are great. They did my engine......in 1976 when they were on Gratiot Ave, south of 6 Mile. You know, just down the street from Mancini at that time, back when Ron and Lou actually worked the counter. There were 4 speed shops within 3 mile of one another and probably another 6 with 10 miles.

Sorry, just reminiscing.

I think Dynamic Speed & Marine is still on Jefferson, just north of Selfridge. I used them years ago. They were ok.

There's another place very close to you, Randy. St. Clair Engines in Richmond, on Armada Ridge rd. They do good work as well. One of Best Machine's past lead engine builder / machinist works there. His name is Shawn.

IMO: Price of machining is almost a non-factor. Finding a shop that does great machining is all that matters, to heck with the cost.

I use "Automotive Machine Shop" based on Art's (From Mancini Racing) recommendation.

Jack did absolutely perfect work on my stroker motor, and for the whole job it was about $1100. That included line boring the mains, boring .030 over, clearancing for a stroker crank, cleaning the block, sonic checking it, and balancing the rotating assembly for me.

Its a spotlees clean shop. when I went in yesterday he was dynoing a 1418 HP pontiac motor, yes he let me watch I spend a lot with this shop. this guy is very good. and just up the road a couple of miles.

X2 for SCE! Shawn is currently building my new motor. Very honest and friendly and do very good work. For a price comparison look on Automotive Machine's website. They are at the corner of Utica Rd. and Garfield in Fraser.

here in the Chicago area, I use Midwest Engine Tech in Mokena, Illinois...very good work and build an awesome engine no matter the make...they use a CNC crank balancer ..

the last time I had work, it was 350 to balance the lower rotating assembly...may be higher now....

like said, forget about costs as long as they are within reason, when dealing with great machine shops..

I recommend Midwest Engine Tech..

I know you are on the east coast so a local guy is your best bet..

I've used LSM in Waterford on the last three, only one of the three was my own, they've always treated me right.

Price wise they're always been on par with the other local race shops.

Stopped over to St.Clair Engines today, and met/talked to Shawn...for 20 minutes or so. REAL NICE GUY! Definately knows his Mopars,as well! My friend,Randy Johnson(Dartin)is having a stroker built by Shawn, right now!..in fact,I saw ALL of his parts..pre-assembly! Look GOOD! He STRONGLY suggested I go to Main Cap studs,at my power level. He also said that he wouldn't touch-hone my cylinders WITHOUT a torque plate..which more than a few of you said is a MUST! Thank You ALL for your suggestions on this! Can ya tell which shop I'm favoring right now?
