I recently acquired a '07 Chrysler Aspen with 72,000 miles and the 5.7 Hemi. This is my first used vehicle since 1997. I have always started them off on Mobil 1 synthetic oil and the Napa Gold oil filter. The sticker on the Aspen states that it has Quaker State 5w-20 in it. I am not sure what filter yet. I want to change the oil to Mobil 1 with the Napa Gold filter. Are there any issues that may come up if I do this? Thanks, Steven

I wouldn't think so, I have an 05 Magnum RT (same engine) and I always put 5-20 synthetic in it, but whatever is on sale, sometimes Mobil 1, somtimes Castrol, other times Quaker State. I used to use FRAM filters, but got the scared out of me by a post on here about how bad they are. Like you I switched to Napa Gold recently. I've never had any issues with using different brands of oil

Go to wal mart and buy the 5qt jug it's cheaper. Always use what weight the book calls for the way the motors are today you can mess one up if you stray too far from what it says. I use a mobil one filter too.I know it costs more but i go 10,000 between changes which is cheaper in the long run, and i have 418,000 on my neon.

They made an Aspen in 07? [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] have I been? I'd put whatever you like in the weight the manufacturer states and be done with it.

No, just use the same weight. Where was the sticker, facory or oil change place?

You can use a 0W-30 or 5W-30 without any problems. Most cars nowadays are using 20 weight oils for getting that last fraction of a MPG out of the EPA tests.

An '07 will have an MDS engine...so (from what I've been told) you need to use to correct oil (5w-20)or the MDS system will not work properly. If I'm wrong on this, somebody please correct me.

My 2006 truck (currently 205,000 mi) has a 5.7....I initially ran dino oil changing at about 4k miles. I switched to synthetic at about 80k. I run the extra long Baldwin filter (the filter alone holds almost a quart), and usually get Quaker State full synthetic, though I'll buy whatever name brand if I find a good price.

Usually go about 5k between changes. It is just getting to the point that I have to add a small amount of oil between changes.

No worries whatsoever, don't give it a second thought.
Put in your favorite brand of synthetic 5w20.

If you're mostly concerned about leaks, consider:
5.7s really don't have any "gaskets" per se'.
99% o-rings. The closest thing to a gasket it has is the oil pan, and it is molded rubber/a permanant part of the windage tray. As long as it doesn't leak with conventional oil, it won't with synthetic either.

Changed one car (Toyota) to all synthetic at 150K mi., another (Acura) at 80K, another ('01 Durango) at 50K. No leaks or problems with any of 'em.

Since we're on the topic of "does changing a hile mile vehicle to synthetic hurt it?", does it hurt anything? I've heard guys swear up and down that it'll cause a high miler to spring leaks like old faithful at Yellow Stone Nationial Park. I think it's BS, but is there something to it? or just myth?

Myth.

Anyone remember Arco Graphite oil? We had a '71 Pontiac Grand Safari wagon with a 455 when I was a kid and my dad switched to Arco Graphite and that stuff seeped out of every place it could find including the head gaskets from what I remember.

Or better yet, 0W-20 Full Synthetic. Does everything the 5W-20 Synthetic does only better, and it's the same price. Don't be hesitant on the 0W. It's not a downgrade; it's the contrary.

And for the money, the Napa Platinum oil filter is now the best widely available oil filter on the market with it's 100% micro-glass media. Yes! Although, the 1950s tech paper oil filter will suffice, why do that to your engine when the modern tech micro-glass is now so easily attainable.
