Has anybody used one of these and are they really all they're cracked up to be.

I've called twice today trying to order some. The first time they said to call back in a couple hours 'cause they were in the middle of a crisis. OK, no problem.

I just called back a couple minutes ago and asked if they had their crisis solved so I could order parts and they actually hung up on me!

Is this normal behavior for them?

I have dealt with Dan a few times.

I guess he is the old grumpy kind, but he is a good guy in the end.

Been 100% OK everytime I dealt with him, its just kinda hard to get ahold of him. I got a kick out of hearing him ramble and vent about not being able to get any good help nowadays! LOL

I don't even know who it was that answered the phone and hung up on me. I've never talked to anybody there before.

The first time I called somebody else answered then handed the phone to Dan so I got to talk to him for a minute or so.

The second time whoever answered just grumbled Dvorak, listened to me for a little bit then hung up.

That might have initiated the hang up

The best rear seals are sold by a memeber here--they are the red Viton Old stock real USA made--Marsh at Moparts Connection has them in stock and will not hang up on you--see his ad on sponsor page. Ask for the BLUE side seals--they are re-tooled and not like the red side seals that nobody can make work.

Both Dan Dvorak and Todd @ Marsh Performance are great to deal with and have the Top Shelf rear seals

Dan grumpy sometimes?
I know he has only 1 leg for sure and I think 4 thumbs so maybe it was an accident

Also Todd @ Competition Wedge stocks these

They are new, innovative and a industry insider exclusive. Please send me $20.00 for more information..... ....I have been using them in my Twin Turbo yugo for over a year now, and they have surpassed the typical Roadhazard warranty period...with many sub 6.50 second runs.... ....I worked closely with Roadhazard to develop a color that " people of your age group" could spot and find easier...

I spent a little bit of time looking into rear main seals. I was trying to find something "super trick" for a dry sump engine. As far as I could find, there are only a couple of seals on the market. The standard one and the Viton one. It appeared to me that everyone in the industry just resells one or the other.

Maybe I'm wrong? Does anyone know if anyone else is making something different? My guess is that Dvorak is just reselling the Viton seal but maybe he had something special tooled up just for him?

There are special seals available for Chevy and Ford motors, but I didn't find anything for Mopar big blocks.

What I bought from Dvorak some years ago is identical to the Viton seals & side rails that 440 Source shows on their web site.

I'm also interested in knowing how the blue side rails have been improved over the red ones I have two sets of now. Oh, and I'm 52 if that has anything to do with it...

Andy is almost right. The red seals are the red seals--but...the sorry black units Fel Pro has sourced from who knows where are JUNK--The old orange side seals are a PIA and not the right diminsions--the blues are a "corrected" version of the orange and the best deal going--The seal that Mopar sells now is the sorry no good POS that FelPro has and it is NOT right--it has caused more problems than you can imagine

Here is a description of the red seals, which are like the FelPro style 2947 premium race seal. They are made for hi performance and vacuum applications.

Our “Premium Sportsman Series” rear crankshaft seals are engineered to provide confidence
in sealing a very demanding area of today’s advanced racing engines.
MATERIAL
Unique blend of premium Fluoroelastomer rubber with friction reducers provides minimal
parasitic losses and withstand intermittent temperatures up to 550˚F.
DESIGN
Special design sealing lip and parting surface area ensures confidence in sealing Dry Sump/
High Vacuum as well as Advanced Wet Sump applications.
RESULTS
Top engine builders in many forms of motor sports have realized the ease of use and sealing
benefits provided by these products.

The blue side seals were re-tooled for easier installation. Some people were having problems getting them to fit easily, so these have a minute tolerance change to aid in installation.

What I have found best, is make sure the seal retainer is dry, and use 3M 77 adhesive in the side seal grooves. The side seals are then " solid" witht he seal retainer. Hold the seal retainer at a slight angle outward, which will almost " hinge" in the blcok register. You can then stand the seal retainer straight up, then slide it down into position. I like to use a slight spray or coating of Dupont TriFlow on the seal retainer register of the block, and on the side seals themselves. Works like a charm. Make sure to read the instructions on properly aligning the rear main seal. You also DO NOT need to put ANY sealer on the seal ends where they meet! The seals are designed to NOT need that.

I stopped by Dan's place on US 301 a couple of years ago. He was laying in a bed in the office. He's definitely had a bad couple of years there. He had to sell off the cars and things to pay the medical bills. I talked to one of the employees there. He seemed like an OK guy, but I guess Dan isn't in shape to do the work like he used to do. You might cut him some slack given the bad turn of events in his life.
