I'll get some pics up later today. I'm building a 68 Dart Street Strip car looking for 1000RWHP.Going with a new look in performance in the next few months. A few small details are:
416 stroker
R1 block 4.070
4" dragon slayer crank
Carrillo Rods 6.100
Custom CP pistons 9.5:1 static (.040 quench)
Billet Mains
Block was prepped by Ray Barton
Phil Colman ported W9 heads
Ferrea 2.18 valves/ 1.66
PAC springs
Mid 370's flow at .700 (I don't have the flow sheet my builder does)
Custom turbo cam Reed at worksturbo sent me some cam specs for my street/strip twin turbo build. Because the 9W heads flow so well, we will not need a ton of duration. LLooking for a camshaft around the following specs, solid roller

Intake, 232-234* min, 238-242 max @ .050
Exhaust 234-236*min, 238-242 max @ .050

Get the valve lift in as much as possible and it still be reliable for my use. with the 1.6 rocker ratio I was thinking in the 630 range.

"I can get into IVO and EVO events, but I think for your application lets keep it simple. Get the ICL at 110 and the lsa around 114 and you cant go wrong...there might be more powerful setups for your application, but with this you will have a wide operating range that will make the HP you want pretty easily. If the cam comes in on the small side of the duration, you can go with a 112 LSA to help with the revs a little."

T&D 1.6 rockers
custom pushrods
W9 single plane intake with injector bungs
90* elbow with 90MM throttle body

Power adder:
Twin Turbo Borgwarners 68MM
TiAL waste gates and BOV
Water : Air intercooler
All plumbing will be Stainless
Lazer cut W9 flanges

Front Suspension:
TSHELL tubular K frame with rack and pinion, and QA1 coil overs.

Rear Suspension:
Virginia Rod Company fully adjustable large Tri-4 link
Custom Nascar 9" stamped housing, detroit locker, 3.50 gears, 35 spline axles.

Drive Train:
Custom Drive shaft local company.
TH400 trans
Coan converter
Trans brake
(Don't bother asking about the trans as I got it for a hell of a deal with the TC and it's never had a pass made) Built for 1500hp.

Wheel/tires combo:
Billet specialties 15X10 (3.25 BS) 325/50/15

Moly cage and subframe connectors

The car is already painted and interior is complete with custom door panels, dash pads and visors, including all new bezels.

Fuel supply.. unsure? Definitely doing a 15 gal fuel cell in the trunk.
E58 fuel

EFI as of now I'm going with Big Stuff3 but will purchase that last.. I was looking into the MS3 too.

This car will be just a hot rod to go show off at the local cruise ins and car shows with seeing track time once or twice a month. I would like to be able to drive the car to the track run some nines a drive it home. 50 miles one way!

Goals are make over 1001 rwhp, be streeable, be different, run low 9's

How wide did your rear end housing turn out? Im putting a similar wheel and tire combo in my 73 Duster and the rear end is next on my list.

very nice build...

I went with a 20gal aluminum cell for mine...I want to get a little bit more than a 10 mile range..

I'll be using E85 as well....

Yes I know, but it will be street driven more than strip. The good thing about a turbo build is that cam specs are not as critical as they are n/a.

I ended up with that custom 9" being 4 inch shorter than a stock a body width housing.

I'm wanting to go with a 15 gal cell but am worried about the e85 corrosiveness that it causes on alumn. Did you do anything to prevent this? I though about a stainless steel tank as well.


Thanks for the response fellas, I just wanted to build something that your not going to see at ur local cruise in or track. I also didn't want a trailer queen I want to be able to drive it anywhere so reliable is a must.

I think the biggest issue is going to be the valve train. With you going turbo I'm almost thinking a hydraulic flat tappet cam would be a better way to go. Since we don't need killer lift rates with the turbo and excellent heads. we could run less spring which would add a bunch to longevity and you wouldn't have the maintenance issues of setting valve lash all the time. Probably the biggest thing is getting rid of the AL bronze distributor gear which wears out very fast and needs to be replaced every 5-10K miles. Whats your thoughts on doing that? Personally, I think you"d be more reliable with more boost to make up for the cam difference and going hydraulic flat tappet. I wouldn't do it on an NA build but the more I think about it with the turbos it would be the way to go. My cam specs that were giving to me for my street/strip car are:

Intake, 232-234* min, 238-242 max @ .050

This is for a SB mopar 4" stroker (416) using ported W9 heads and twin turbo BW s300 66mm

depending on your boost level , spring closed pressure could be a factor .......which might impact cam / lifter choice.
Gonna be one bad ride though.

Just talked to the builder and I told him I wanted to stay with the solid roller cam.. he has a 236/246 @ 050 and 610 lift using T&D 1.65 rockers... I currently have some brand new old school shubeck lifters but i'm thinking for the added insurance I should run the oil feed hipo Crower lifters. What are your thoughts on that? I just think that with running a street car I'd like to have the peace of mind knowing that the valve train is being lubed properly.

Also so achieve me 1000rwhp I doubt I see over 16 lbs of boost with the twin 66 mm.. So at most I will run 10-15lbs of extra seat pressure on the intake springs.

I'm a big fan of direct oiling of the rollers......I just used what Ryan J recommended on my W-9.
Similar end use , but mine is n/a.
They are a Crane piece that was made by another outfit......G.S. if memory serves me.
I could go in the garage and get the P/N if you're interested.
Or simply call Ryan at Shady Dell and get the lowdown.
He is a small block guru in my opinion.

that would be great if you could get me the part number... I know ryan but he is so hard to get a hold if it's disscouraging. Also what block are you running? I'm running a 59* tall deck R1 block with the lifter bores brushed...

Tell me more about ur valve train? what rockers, push rods, etc are u using? My builder has it figured out but i'd like to see how he and ryan compare.. They both know each other but my guys got into building the Gen III hemis and kinda fell out of the game for a while doing that stuff.

They are G.S. products p/n 1175-16
It is a small Chev part ( .904 dia. ) with the link bar for my 48 degree block ( R-3 ) and was probably a special order.
The box had W/O # 20581 ( work order # I assume ) on it which might give you a link to what went into them , but I don't know that they will work for a 59 degree block as ordered.
These are the Crane ultra pro's essentially and since Crane is back in business , a call to them should get you hooked up.
They weren't cheap , but nothing about these is.......just north of 700.00 for the lifters.
I have T&D 1.6 rockers and am still screwing it together so I haven't gotten around to measuring and ordering pushrods yet.........Smith or Manton is who I'll be calling for those.
