Sorry about all the posts guys, I'm trying to take advantage of the 15% off code at Scummit and round up some of the bigger items I'll be needing.
Trying to decide which rockers I should pick up for my 508.
It has a decent sized Comp solid and RPM heads with Isky 8005 springs.

I am vascillating between:
Harland Sharp 1.5's at $561 after discount
Crane Gold 1.6's(the cam was spec'd for 1.6's) at $456
Comp Pro-Magnum 1.5's at $592

As always, cheaper is better but I don't want issues down the road. Eventually I plan on sticking a mild roller in it.
This is a 100% street car that we put about 2,000 miles/year on going to different shows and just beating around in having fun with it.
Max RPM will be around 5500-6000.

So, do I need to spend the extra $250 or will the Crane Gold's fill my needs?

Thanks for any/all input!
Jon

Been running 1.5 H-S`s for 7+ years w/a .680-.660 solid roller cam and so far, so good.......... The cranes probably wont live with your future roller upgrade............

Harland sharps all the way. I bought mine from Dan (performance only). He and I had a great discussion on them and he sold me on them. Good stuff and well worth the money. I agree with the above poster don't go cheap with this part of the build.

Michael, thanks for the kind words.
Harland Sharp has 1.6 rockers also if you want to go that route. i agree with the others that rocker arms are not a good place to skimp on the budget. they are a few dollars more than some other brands, but they're a much better product than many of the others too. let me know if i can help.

I like the Hughes roller rockers I use on my 493 with the EZ heads. They have been working fine and holding up good. Ron

Buy the best you can afford once, not buy the cheaper ones several times I have several sets of Harland Sharps, one older set of 1.5 and two newer sets of 1.6, all three sets check bigger at the retainers than advertizsed on the ratio The 1,5 check to be 1.54 actaul and both sets of 1.6 are actually 1.65 at the retainers Two of the sets are on roller cam motors with lots of srping pressures,625 LBs+ and the older set is on motor with hydraulic flat lifters with 350 lbs open pressure. I swear by them, I have had cheaper ones in the past, I got what I paid for

Harland Sharps all the way. I ran them on my old 440 w/ Edelbrock heads and they're on my Indy SR heads now.

Edlebrock recomended that I run 1.5 rockers on there heads and use the cam with the lift that I want.
I have been running 1.5 Crane gold roller rockers on both of my cars with RPM heads for 15 years on my 340 and 6 years now on my 440. No trouble ever. I ran Crane gold roller rockers on several 572 chevy motors with roller cams that I drag raced in a dragster with close to .800" lift and never had a failure either. Ran 6.80s at 200MPH with it.

Harland Sharps WILL work on the RPM heads, but the fitment is not as exact as I would like to see. I offer sets made to better align the roller tips for RPM heads. Let me know if I can help.

I'd suggest looking at the Hughes rocker arms. I used to always recommend the RAS rocker arms but I don't think they are available anymore. I know that Dave at Hughes has been working hard on rocker arm systems. There are a lot of little issues that he has sorted out with his latest design.

I am looking for a set for a mild street strip 440 with edelbrock rmp's with the 590 purpleshaft cam. I ran a set of cheap pro forms for years and they seem to work good for me on that. These ones have the bearing in them and they have the nice 12 pt. nut with adjuster. These look nice compared to my old mopar permormance aluminum ones Im running with my roller cam 500.

IMO, the needle beraings are spaced too far apart on those. there are other issues, but i'll leave it at that.

Thats why I asked. Are you better off without the bearing like the ones I am running on my 500?

The HS are a little long on the RPMs, the rocker tip will run outside of center on the valve tip. IMO, it is no big deal.

I'm using the Comps on my roller cam street car with no problems. I think any of those choices are fine if the new Cranes are the same quality as the old Crane Golds.

Does this hold true for the 440 source heads?

I call those Shanghai Sharps!

And, no, I wouldn't use them on anything I'd own.

as well as the failing upper bridge portion of the rocker body and axle....not good, very poor copies.

The Hughes stuff does seemed priced well and a good value. I think the H/S could hold up a bit better under a little higher loads, and I have some long term experince with them in many brakcet and Super Gas type cars, but not sure what your future plans are, so thats got to be your call there.

The last few set of Cranes I ordered were still the " old" style, and they had not yet started shipping their new pieces, so until that happens, I cant say how godd they actually will be.Roller cams in my opinion need a little better rocker for long term service. Small roller snad solids, the Cranes did work great on.

Todd - Good info!!! IMO, people need to see & understand how these low-budget copies are INFERIOR to the originals in some significant areas. Rocker arms are really not a place where you can "cheap out" with a true performance engine.

I ran them w/ my Stage VIs and a solid flat-tappet cam w/ good results. I'm hoping they're up to running with 200#s more open spring load w/ the new roller cam.
