I'm getting the last of the parts needed to get the 508 into my 68 Coronet wagon.
Last thing I need to figure out is an oil pan.
I got a 440 source deep pan with the motor, however I'd really rather not run it as the car does sit pretty low and dragging the pan on bumps doesn't sound like a good time to me.
Wondering if I can get away with a hemi pan/pickup setup.
The motor does have a HV pump on it.
What say you Moparts gods?

Ditch the HV pump and avoid prolonged periods of elevated RPM's ........ you should be fine with the Hemi pan.
I have had motors suck the pan dry after extended freeway romps........no kind of fun I'd recommend.

I can do that.
I should clarify - I do plan on putting a centri blower on this thing next year so the added volume may come in handy. I do see where you are coming from, haven't done it personally but do know folks who've lunched main bearings as a result of that.

Highway pulls won't likely take long with the power this thing should make(700+) so extended high RPM operation won't be an issue.

The Hemi pan is a good one. The Hemi pan plus 3 qt oil accumulator is pretty much bullet proof. If your engine needs/wants the HV pump due to bearing clearance or full groove bearings, I'd go ahead and run it.

Even the Hemi pan is an inch or so deeper than stock... a K frame mounted skid plate is a good idea.

The attached is a "thread within a thread" on skid plates.

There are two different 426 street hemi oil pans, 1966 to 1969 and the better 1970-71 I use the 1970-71 6 pak oil pan with the stock factory 1970-71 440 6pak oil pickup(3/8, not the 1/2 inch one My motors normally have more bearing clearnances than some others use and most of my motors have the rocker assembllys oiled full time so my motors have more oil circulating in them than some of the other stocker type B/RB motors out there have The 1970-71 hemi 6 pak oil pans work great Besides they hold 6 quarts in the sump as well as one in the filter instead of 5 like the earleir deeper sump street hemi pans held The later oil pans fit in the all the 1966 to 1971 B/RB B body K members very well

I'm running the 440Source 7 quart pan on my 440 '67 Satellite and I haven't had any issues with the pan hitting. And I drive it a lot on all kinds of roads with little 215/70-14 tires on the front. Haven't hit or scrapped it yet. I do slow way down for speed bumps in parking lots.

Would you be willing to post a pic of your car?

I would really rather run the deep pan if I can get away with it but I am very nervous about dragging it on something when we're 100's of miles from home on Power Tour or doing something else.

Agreed 100%.

Next winter I plan on sticking a tubular K under the car at which point I'll add an extension on to the sump of the stock pan to give more capacity.

I've been running this Milodon system for over 20 years.Only scrapped the pan once when a rim cracked and lost air,,,,,,,,FAST I was in the middle lane, tire went flat and I almost hit the curb in the left lane, yanked the wheel to the right and the pan scrapped.Other than that I'm carefull

had a 383 with hv pump, mild rebuild- 3/4's into the 1/4 mile it makes some noises... 2 main bearings and 4 rod bearings and 2 rods later i was back in action, with a BIG pan.

You got off easy ... same situation - mine put a rod through the block and took out the cam and pretty much everything else. This was due to running the high volume (Ramchargers kit) pump and a hemi pan. Now I run the biggest pan and the stock pump with pressure adjustment.
