Yes you need to be 9.99 or quicker and that rule has been on the books for a while now. I have had no problems with the net being out dated. I think they(nhra money grabbers) are going to try and inforce it. I talk to the tech guy at my track and he is only going to enforce it on 8.50 and quicker cars.

The rule has always been to replace nets every 2 years IF YOU ARE USING A MESH NET. The ribbon nets did not have an expiration date according to the rules. Is that changing????
This statement is absolutely correct. I would like to see were they have changed that.

Just like the seatbelts. The window net rule is changed for the same deal I suspect.
Here is the deal. Company A makes window net. NHRA finds out Company A window net model 1 is junk. Meanwhile Company B made a window new model 301 that has a problem. Almost impossible to find all these window nets and keep up with which ones were problems. So just like the belts they figure get rid of them every two years and the junk only stands to be in your car racing NHRA tracks for two years.

I had my car certified this spring and the conversation about belts came up, I suggested it was the dumbest rule ever. His reply was the belts are oil based which means they break down over time, didn,t say how much time just that they do. I don,t know if it was [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] or not, but kinda makes sense. Still not happy about it though.

lol sory about the wrong choice of words moparts. Yes very funny thumper as the next question to techy was...if that,s the case then how come 30 year old cars are allowed to be on the roads with original belts? and he just shrugged his shoulders lol

I just got my 2012 IHRA rule book in the mail today. They still only have the 2 year replacement for mesh nets, ribbon nets N/A.

As an NHRA tech for Division 3, I can confirm, there has been a rule change for 2012, and the ribbon style nets ARE required to have SFI date tags and and are good for 2-years just like the seat belts. I don't fully agree with it, but that is now the rule. I personalty talked with one of the head guys for SFI and he indicated they have found when testing belts and window nets that even if kept out of the sun and in good condition, they lose some of their strength just from aging.

We had a guy on here a few years back that tested belts.... some nasty lookin ones... in each case that he tested... the latch gave way first.... he never once had the webbing give out.... and in the testing I watched at work it was the same way... that webbing or seat belt material is STRONG stuff(and that was 2" webbing)and we are required 3" except for the crotch belt which can be 2"..... I dont see the need to change out a web style window net every 2 years... the purpose is to keep your arms inside the car(and the net is suppose to be mounted in board so it cant be ground away if the car is on its side... its not a strength issue........JMO

You so called tech guys, all you have to do is show us the results of the tests showing us that belts fail. Just show us the tests and we will shut up.
That is all I'm asking for before I throw another $100 in the trash or just quit.
If the belts and nets really do fail after two years, how come the HANS device straps are good for five years
