Talked to Division 1 Tech yesterday. Any car requiring a window net must meet sfi 27.1 spec and be replace every 2 years (just like seatbelts). He said it starts April 1st. Also helmets no older than snell 2005. Anybody else know about this?

I think everone knew about the helmet update..But I did not know about the window net...I think you have to be 9.99 or quicker for the net?

Yes you need to be 9.99 or quicker and that rule has been on the books for a while now. I have had no problems with the net being out dated. I think they(nhra money grabbers) are going to try and inforce it. I talk to the tech guy at my track and he is only going to enforce it on 8.50 and quicker cars.

The rule has always been to replace nets every 2 years IF YOU ARE USING A MESH NET. The ribbon nets did not have an expiration date according to the rules. Is that changing????

This statement is absolutely correct. I would like to see were they have changed that.

I just checked the rule changes and in the table where it said Window Net (Mesh) expires in 2 years they have removed the "(Mesh)" therefore ANY net expires in 2 years.

My ribbon net has no date on it at all.. Any chance of it being grandfathered in?

Just like the seatbelts. The window net rule is changed for the same deal I suspect.

Here is the deal. Company A makes window net. NHRA finds out Company A window net model 1 is junk. Meanwhile Company B made a window new model 301 that has a problem. Almost impossible to find all these window nets and keep up with which ones were problems. So just like the belts they figure get rid of them every two years and the junk only stands to be in your car racing NHRA tracks for two years.

As the Cranksaft turns NHRA needs to get a life. Make the replacement rule 5 years on Belts/Nets/gloves/shoes/neckbraces. Also replace if your involved in a incident, heaven forbid for that ever to happen. upon inspection of your chassie you get your other stuff inspected.motor inspection stickers SFI # and all.

The bottom line is mandate/mandate/mandate$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I had my car certified this spring and the conversation about belts came up, I suggested it was the dumbest rule ever. His reply was the belts are oil based which means they break down over time, didn,t say how much time just that they do. I don,t know if it was [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] or not, but kinda makes sense. Still not happy about it though.
