I'm working on a 69 GTX that we are putting back to factory stock appearing. The complete exhaust system was missing when the car was purchased. I am trying to decide which company offers a better exhaust system. I see where Gardner H-pipe has the correct flat spots in the pipe... Does Accurate pipes have the flat spots? Anyone use them before? What is you experience? Thanks!!

After numerous referalls I went with Dons Custom Exhaust for the H-pipe and tail pipes.
Accurate for the mufflers, tips, all the clamps and hangers

It's not on the car yet, but I have no worries about fit.
1969 Charger R/T 440 btw

I can get pictures later today if wanted

Well I chose Accurat for the pipes and DCS for everything else. Reason is AE had a killer black friday sale -25% off, but their mufflers & resonators dont have part numbers and penastars, DCS does.

I purchased a complete Accurate exhaust system for my E body, after seeing my friends Accurate B body exhaust. No complaints here, only praises... talk to Colby..

The last time I looked (a few years ago), Accurate didn't really offer "reproduction" exhaust systems in terms of duplicating OEM appearance, etc. I'd call what they had (have?) nice "stock replacement" systems, though.

What I saw of Gardner at the same time was much more geared to being reproduction pieces.

I think they each have their own niche, but people need to understand what they're getting either way.

Accurate doesn't do the flat areas but their stuff is very nice & fit's well... If your going for OE judging the Gardener stuff is as close to OE as you'll find short of NOS.. If your building something with nice stuff but not chasing date codes use Accurate...

I appreciate everyone's input! We are going with the Gardner kit. I'm putting the car back OE appearing. We're not going for OE Gold at the Nationals or anything but the owner wants the car as close to original as possible. Most everything that is easily seen will be date coded correct but when it comes to things like tie-rod ends and stuff like that, he isn't worried about codes and part numbers. Thanks again!!

Normally I don't chime in on posts like this. I just keep my nose out of it and let my fellow Moparts members decide, but there is one thing I did want to point out.

Everyone keeps saying that we don't do the correct dents and flats in pipes. It is true that for pipes we put into stock we tend not to put the huge torsion crushes or crossmember flats in pipes. With most people, we have discovered don't want them there to impede the exhaust flow. However, we have done countless exhaust systems that way upon customer request. We have all the original pipes to replicate where the factory put the factory clearance flats. Just give us a call and we can let you know what you need.

Thank you for you time,

but I believe Gardner doesnt offer part numbers and penastars (either does Accurate) - I think DCS is the only game in town if you want absolutely correct appearing mufflers and resonators...

Gardner said they do not have the penastar for licensing reasons. They did however make their mufflers correct on everything else minus the logo. Year One offers mufflers with penastar for $315.00/pr but I do not know who their supplier is. I'm guessing DCS.

Colby, thank you for the info. I wasn't aware that the OE appearing flat spots could be had on your exhaust system. I agree that most people would rather have a better flowing exhaust that is original in appearance but then you have mopar weird-o's like me that really prefer the small details that set the car apart from the norm.

If you look on our home page you will see in our main ad it says "NOS Style Available" (I have attached our ad on here) What we mean by that is we can make it as close to NOS appearing as possible. For some customers we have even ordered cold rolled tubing to build even more correct pipes.

Justin,

We are happy to do whatever we can for the customer. Whether it is as bone stock as we can get it or custom made to fit the customers needs. Each customer knows how they want his/her car to be and we try to accommodate them as much as possible.

Thank you,
