Is there any harm in truing up the top of the plastic float bowl by .010 to .020 using a milling machine? Since the float measurements are from the lid, I figure that stays the same and I can lower the notch for the plate that goes across the secondary an amount equal to what I take off with the milling machine.

How would this be achieved without it turning into dust? I have used a plate of glass and 800 sand paper, or a machinist block, something flat.

You could mill it but the sand paper and flat surface
is just as good and usually faster.... I did many
with the sand paper on a sheet of glass(mirror)
