Around 1981 and into Camaros as a 16 yr old....talked Pop into buying a decent shape 67 Camaro Convertible 396/4 speed console/gauges car...

Was white with white top, blue interior....ralley sport option with hidaway lights........the seller was telling us that this was a pace car edition, which I had never heard of before so I thought he was kidding me.....it had been repainted white before so there were no emblems on it.......he showed us some documents which were in the trunk, where flags had been attached to the bumper and an extra set of door decals which had decayed away in the trunk before anybody put them on.

this all meant little to me...we bought it and my buddy and i would take it out when my parents were gone and beat on it...laying rubber everywhere.....bought for 2500.......dad sold it after i left for college in '84 for 4500.....a few years later we found out it was an original parade car, something of like 80 or so built for race day...

reminds me of 1986 when my friend was begging me to buy his 69 pace car vert, 350/auto, for $3800.....i hated the orange interior...go figure...

Bill, my mistake - I thought you were talking about a '71 Stage 1. Yes, the number of 1971 455s has been adjusted over the years. I have the proper number somewhere based on research from the Sloan Museum.

1967 Mustang 390 fastbacks are not rare at all, by the way.

the rarest car i ever owned was a 74 anniversary trans am 455sd 4 speed with T tops.

1) no 1974 Trans Ams were built with T-tops
2) 1974 wasn't an anniversary year for anything
3) the only anniversary trans am that came with a 455 was the 1976 model and it sure wasn't a super duty by then - garden variety low-po 455

was your car black and gold? if so it was a '76

My 1970 442 W30; purchased it in 1985 for $7500.00 and sold it in 1989 for just a little more. 1 of 1542 1970 W30 HT autos and it had some desireable options; rallye pac, hurst dual gate, 3.91's, SS1's etc.

....but I knew exactly what it was....unfortunately a house for my new family came first.

1969 Road Runner Hemi 4 spd
Last I heard it was the only 99 spring green Hemi 4 spd car known

like a fool, I sold it in the late 80s .

Car sold new right here in town.Scothorn Motor Co.
Bought by a grandma for her grandsons high school graduation present.

To this day, I remember seeing it in the early 70s running around on deep dish cragers and cherry bomb exhaust ( car was LOUD) and he was beating the snot out of of it everytime.

God I wish I had that car back, Last I heard it was in Wisc.

Great car.

Or the '05 Acura TL Aspec 6 Speed she drives on the other days. only 5% were 6 speeds, far fewer were Aspec package cars... probably something like 1-2% of all '05s. It has a "sport" VIN (1 yr only) which means it is a pre-"Type S" and we got stiffed the larger motor by buying a few months too early before the '06 Type S cars existed. Still got the big Brembos up front and tougher suspension. .

Like we we have discussed before my wife's car is the same way minus the a spec package. I think they might all have been grey. We found two manual trans 05s when shopping and they were both grey. Do you always find yourself looking at the calipers on other TLs to see what they are? Lol

Yeah, I always look and they're always NOT

No, I think they had a black 6 speed on the radar at the dealership where we "ordered" ours, but we wanted a grey one and we had to wait... they then dealer traded for it if I remember correctly. Looking back, I don't know why we wanted grey so bad.... such a common boring color now that all the TLs are running around out there in that color.

I wish I could paint it flat black...wife would never roll with that....she always wants to ruin my fun....

That info is good to know, thanks.

1 web page I found yesterday said 17,000 plus for the '67 Luxury fastback. Didn't say how many were 390s or 4-spds. Mine was the 'Luxury Fastback', not the regular 'fastback'. "Luxury 17,391", "Fastback 53,651".

Yes, I read that, then looked up the web page I saw yesterday, and edited my post with info, so mine was 1 of 29 according to your post/info. Thanks.

Mine was a GT, also had the 8-track radio [1 of 2] standard steering.

You're reading the Marti wrong. It's like this:

x like this.
Of those, x had this.
Of those, x had this.
Of those, x had this.

So, the 2 8-track cars were 390 fastback 4-speed cars with GT package and that particular interior/exterior combo. Yours most certainly was not like that.

It had the luxury package so maybe it was. But no ac, so maybe not.

My '67 Mustang Fastback GT, 390 4-spd.

I've heard there wasn't a big bunch of them made.

Owned it from summer '69 until April '72.

I had one Highland Green with a 289 and a 4-speed. That was back in the mid 70s when they were just aging cars with little value. I can image if I had dropped a 390 into it and turned it into a Bullit clone.

Why a Buick GS... So roll the clocks back to 1978. Was working in a carwash in suburbs of Philly when a kid from school came through with his brother's 1970 Stage 2 GS. It's hard to even fathom today the thoughts of this car being put through a brush type conveyored car wash..gasp.
When he left he proceeded to light em up in what was at the time probably the longest posi-track rolling burnout I'd ever seen. At 15 years of age this left a lasting impression. Now roll the clocks to 1982 and I'm at first duty assignment at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Was riding past a new car lot with a buddy and at a glance saw what I thought was a Buick Skylark on the lot. Pulled in the lot and low and behold it's a 71 GS 455 and BAM, I'd just bought my first muscle car. Had the GS from 82 to 92 when I sold it while stationed in Montana. Wonder today if the car is still alive and well? Cool part at Altus was the original owner was there and I'd spoken with him a couple of times. He said they'd take the car to Az and Nv on road trips and have the speedo pegged out cruising at 120 mph on the highways of Mexico back in the 70's. Pretty cool; had me laughing hearing that from the ol man. His son also a car buff had a beautiful 1970 GTO Judge convertible (gold in color). It was at local car shows I'd gotten to know the original owner and his son....man that was long ago. This GS, like the Stage 2 would burn rubber for a block long if you kept your foot in it and it stayed straight. A blast to drive and an incredibly comfortable car to drive. Definitely miss it...

Had minor rust repairs under the vynal top; fixed that and replaced the vynal...removed in the pict. Pict probably 1983ish Altus Oklahoma.

Curious if any board members know of Rosevelt Oklahoma and Hinton's Salvage (Parts World). Back in the early 80's this was a haven for finding plenty of mopar parts and cars if you frequented the lot cause parts went fast there to people who were scarfing them up (must have been psychic).

Forgot about the GS. Had a '68 Buick GS 400. Not too remarkable until you throw in the power convertible top, the power driver's seat, the AM/FM radio, clock, cruise control, A/C, power windows, tilt column and the vacuum trunk release. Factory road wheels and a hood tach, along with added Lucas Square 8 driving lights - ahhh, the good days.

Owned, and got away...

1970 Cuda V-code Six-Pack, 4 sp, Dana, Lime on black, Fog Light car. Had to sell it (for $5000) to help out a family member financially.

Never owned, and got away...

1969 GTO Judge Convertible, bench seat, 400, 4 sp car!!! Had a 455 at the time because the number matching engine had a cracked cylinder, but was included in the sale. Didn't have the $3500 about 25 years ago...oh, well....

Was looking for a Cuda, wanted one badly. A shipmate had one he wanted to sell but I passed on it - was too worried about having to buy tires too often. 70 Cuda 440 6 pak, 4 speed and triple black for 1500.00. That was 79, of course if I'd bought it I may not have lived through learning to drive it. That's my major consolation. Finally found a 340 4 speed car, still got that one, but it's been in pieces for a long long time now. (See sig pic for as/when purchased appearance.)

Cool car and cool story; was the car a regular GS or a Stage 1 originally? (I'm sure you know there is no such thing as a factory Stage 2 car; they're like SOHC mustangs, RAV GTO's and LS7 Chevelles...)
