I'm switching from a Comp Cams 10 degree titanium retainer to am Isky 10 degree retainer and loosing .050 installed height with the same set of Comp retainers. Is this typical ? Are the Isky locks different ? Should I Just install a set of +.050 locks to make up the difference ? Allan G. 1970 Challenger w/572 Hemi street car and my pride and joy. 1986 T-Type with 272 Stage 2 Buick V6 engine - True 8 second street car. Just updated the engine and put down 928 HP @ 35# boost to the ground on chasis dyno. 1976 Cee Bee Avenger Jet Boat - 460 Ford powered.

bumps440 super gas B Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 1,170 Westbury, NY	Unfortunately... there is no standard among manufactuers as far as machining retainers goes. so ones +.050 retainers can be very different than anothers +.050 stuff. yes you can just go ahead and use different locks to get your desired heights.

I assume its loosing installed height? Its hard to say, will your current setup allow the more spring pressure? Will it throw the springs in coil bind? Loosing .050 in installed height isnt good. Most of the springs are designed to run near coil bind or .060+ or so from coil bind, this is how they work best and are designed. If your heads are setup like this, you dont want to loose .050.. Lots of ways to compensate, yes .050 locks will make it up, there might be enough shim to remove and gain back what you lost. Which Comp retainers and Isky retainers are you trying, so I can write down your findings? My old Comp retainers are #732 and the new Isky retainers are #92-TI-10. I wanted these retainers because they fit the #9985 tool room springs really well. I want to keep the same installed height and don't want to risk cutting the spring pockets any deepeer. I will try the +.050 locks and see how they fit. I never used Isky retainers so I don't know if this is typical or to be expected.
