Well, I found a new 1985 takeoff box close to where my son lives, so I am off to pick it up in a few days. It was on the truck for a few months and in dry storage for 26 years; the bumps and scratches are from moving it around.

Just got back from picking up the box. Trim is missing; that's OK because all of it was coming off anyway. Fought some bad crosswinds/gusts coming back but the box stayed put; not the fuel guage though. It's dirty and has a few scratches but it is rust free and still wearing the grey paint in the bed.

Why did you go with the short shifter instead of the longer handle pickup style?

Believe it or not I didn't know they made a longer model for the pickup until after I installed mine. I actually had to reverse the handle so it would clear the bench seat....

now thats real cold.

I dont know right off what one weighes, but it is kind heavy with 2 people lifting by hand.

I am scraping the hurst crapola shifter on mine, been notheing but a headache trying to get it to shift right.

I have been using the colum shifter in everything mopar for yrs so I know how it works and can shift it myself. mechanical linkage is the way I should have set it up in the first place and that 200 bux would have been beetr used esle where.

It should be interesting as when I shifted it to move it back and forth in the garage it didn't want to go unless I played with the shifter. I wonder if Hurst is aware of these problems and maybe have a different length lever?

Mike, I was going to call up a few friends; but at -15 degrees they might not be my friends anymore. Hooked up some small tie-down straps to the stake pockets and used my engine cherry picker to off load it from the trailer. I plan on setting it on the truck in the next 2 days. I lifted one end and I think it would be a breeze with 4 people.

I have done it with straps and cherry picker/swing set

I agree 4 people are ideal to lift it.

Installed the bed, fuel cell, plumbed the fuel lines, installed a trans cooler and replaced the rusted wheels/worn out tires with a set of US Wheels chrome 8 spokes and 225/75/15 wrangler front tires. Will probably install a set of 265/70/15s on the rear to at least drive it until I tub it with 315/60/15s ET streets. A little at a time as the CC is burning. LOL
