I have a 70 Cuda that I am looking to convert to a Shaker. I already have a hood and I am looking for the bubble assembly. I am not looking for concours originality, Just nice looking and functional. They offer a bubble with mesh grills and an adjustable base support for $200 each, I am thinking that with a fiberglass sixpack base I can be in business. Anyone used one or seen them and care to comment? All advice appreciated!

As said, not looking for concours, this is a nice driver that was a 318 car. The hood is a stock flat that was converted with a kit. I am not spending $2500 for a six pack performance set, but if there is a more economical alternative, I'm listening! Any specifics appreciated!

You could try Gene Gregory, Alhambra Custom Services, http://alhambracustomservice.bravehost.com/

Gene Gregory is the source for Six Pack Performance, same prices as well last time I checked. IMO Gene's is the best reproduction stuff on the market. It's the most expensive as well but like I said above, you get what you pay for.

Yes AARs is ok as well, but thier customer service and lead times leave a lot to be desired, not to mention that thier price isn't that far off of Gregories so why shop around when you can get all the best stuff in one place?

There's no free lunch with a Shaker Hood setup, if you want a good looking factory setup you need to spend some substantial cabage. If you go cheap it will look cheap....PERIOD! You don't have to accept it, like it, or buy it, but that's the way it is.

No one is arguing about Six Pack Performance's product being the absolute best (anyone who has been on this board more than a week knows that). When I asked this question several years back, I took the advice and called Art and I am VERY happy with the result. But this OP clearly stated in his post he didn't want the best and wasn't willing to pay that price. Instead of trying to change his mind, let's help him with what he asked -- to find an acceptable, lower-priced alternative.

Some folks either can't afford, or don't want, the top product on the planet. And that's okay too -- the Mopar tent is big enough for everyone!

I hear where you are comming from and I'm NOT trying to sound snobbish, just answering his question based on what I've seen..... "Are they any good?" ......I guess the real question should be "Good for what?"

Compared to original or higher quality reproductions on the market? Not in my opinion they aren't, but everyone has thier own opinions on how "good" something appears so there you have it.

Thanks for the clarity, Iceman, I came to this forum back in 98. I have not participated much over the last few years for precisely this reason. No real facts offered, fiberglass vs. the alternative(cannot remember the acronym) ? What are brands or vendors to avoid? What alternatives can provide acceptable results with a bit of work?
All fiberglass requires some work.
Not everyone wants perfect repros at a high price for a driver quality car.
I can appreciate that Mr. Harms, as a restoration specialist, would not find it acceptable, or economically feasible to waste time on a less than top quality part. But when someone is looking for a less expensive alternative and states it up front, saying "You get what you pay for" as the only advice is less than helpfull.
Thanks to all for their participation.

Lee, Steve here...

I get what you are after... But after dealing with many people and their shaker setups... Listen to Scott regarding the bubble. Save $$$ with your base (right for some, not for others), don't skimp on the bubble is the advise i offer you fwiw.......

If you want "facts" you need to post some details about what you want to know, general questions will get you general answers.

Well Scott, you seem to have a non answer for just about everything. Now my questions are not specific enough for you. Do us both a favor and ignore any questions I may ask in the future and I will reciprocate.

I dont have the scoops made anymore.
At the time, they would have been just what you wanted Lee but then others started coming on the market which were superior.
I know where you are coming from but if you want a reasonable priced assembly, as the others have stated here, I would agree, dont short yourself on the scoop.
It is the most visible part of the assembly.
Over the years we have all seen really bad looking scoops on cars.
If it were me I would save money on what sits underneath the scoop, even using fiberglass under it if you wish.
I agree that ol honest Geans' scoops are about the best out there.
Drill out the various bosses, and little finessing to get the grills to mount, and the doors bolt right in.
All others you will spend hours on trying to make look good and in the end will still not be happy with the resulting look.
You can buy one from Gean this time of year for closer to $200 than $300 if you call and talk to him personally.
Dales Cuda shop has the most inexpensive hot/cold doors out there today and they will work fine for you, around $160 for everything.
Same go for his cables if you decide to use them and the doors, less than $100/pair.
But if you are looking to save and function is not important, dont use the doors, just run the long carb air cable through the firewall for appearance.
The grills may be a problem as the best ones, made by Jerome Verbit are no longer being done.
Those are the ones Year One carry but are really marked up and they will tell you they are on back order, but I doubt you will see them ever have them again.
Snobars' grills are $200+ and again with a little scoop tweaking will work just fine for you.
Dont let Gean talk you into using his aluminum grills as they are brutal.
I would stay away from those plastic grills seen on Ebay and perhaps even the mesh ones.
A friend bought a pair and you should see the warpage after the sun hit them.
Repro shaker seals are around $60 for decent ones.
So putting decent money in the scoop and scrimp on the parts under it is the way I would go and you can likely do it for less than $1200.

There was an Ebay dealer "trapaga57" out of Brooklyn NY that I bought a set of grilles from several years ago. They were metal. Attached pic shows an OEM Cuda hood, repop ring, OEM bubble and repop metal grilles. They were a decent product

How are the grilles that 6pack perf. sells?
