I have a manual steering box that I want to put into my Barracuda. It leaks oil from the lower seal (leaks quickly). Anyone know if I can replace just the seal? If so anyone have the part number? Is it a difficult fix?

My sector shaft was wore out.

I don't doubt that this would be an over-the-counter seal at any bearing supply. But I'd be reading a service manual before tearing it apart.

Rock auto sells a seal. less than $5.00

I use grease in my manual box. Mobile 1 synthetic wheel bearing. Tapped a couple of zerks into the sector shaft housing to add grease.
So leaking really isn't an issue.

I am sure it is eaiser to replace seal with the sector shaft removed,
but you might be able to pry the seal out with the shaft in place.

I go w Ebergs' recipe of wheel bearing grease w gear oil. I've seen bare steel on units when I pulled the plug out that used heavy grease and just the gear oil can be too thin & leak out. Works for me

What's the recipe? 50/50?

Not 50/50. Let me see if I can find it. EDIT tube of Mopar wheel bearing grease 4318064 and 2 or 3 oz of 90 wt gear. heat it up in a pan on the stove to mix it & just enough gear oil so it's pourable
